SUMMARY OF POSITION :

The Safety Manager role will oversee all safety and risk management functions for Sandstone Site Services As the Safety Manager, you will assess, advise, and enforce on-site safety compliance for dirt and utility crews for site development projects. The position serves as a subject-matter expert on organizational, local, state, and federal safety requirements. The Safety Manager oversees the organizational Safety Program which includes developing, implementing, and auditing policies and procedures, performing training verifying proficiency and developing corrective actions, and proactively identifying and mitigating risks.

Responsibilities :

• Travels approximately 90% of the time to projects to complete safety inspections, perform training, audit administrative requirements, complete reports, ensure corrective actions have been implemented and issues have been resolved.
• Acts as an advocate for safe working conditions and influences project foremen, superintendents, managers, employees, and subcontractors to commit to a safe working environment
• Promote safe working conditions on job sites and encourage employees to identify, report and remediate unsafe conditions or actions
• Identifies, assesses, and mitigates risks and issues, facilitates, and implements solutions to ensure safety compliance.
• Create and implement project-specific construction safety plans related to site development and underground utility installation while ensuring that they are being followed daily
• Conduct employee safety observations on a regular basis and provide feedback on performance and corrective actions
• Implements and administers programs to track and report safety compliance.
• Evaluate third-party safety inspection reports and review findings with Project teams to ensure corrective actions are taken and issues are resolved.
• Develops and updates project specific Safety Plans
• Perform investigations for incidents that occur onsite, including injuries, near misses, and property damage incidents to identify root causes and develop and follow-up on corrective and preventative actions

Qualifications:

• Bachelor's degree in health and safety or a related field preferred
• 3-5 years of experience within a similar role for a construction firm
• Registration as a GSP, ASP, CSP, CHST, or similar form of licensure as a safety professional
• OSHA 500 Construction trainer authorization
• Experience with large scale site development operations including but not limited to underground utility installation, trenching / excavation, confined space with manholes, and heavy equipment operation
• Valid Driver’s License and clean MVR
• Experience with PowerPoint, Excel, Vista, and auditor safety software
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including public speaking and presentation
• Bilingual preferred (English and Spanish speaking and understanding)
• Understanding and interpretation of federal, state, and local safety requirements
• Ability to manage multiple projects and priorities at the same time while meeting deadlines
• Interpersonal skills, with the ability to establish effective professional relationships with project employees
• Understanding of how to read blueprints and other construction plans preferred
• Leadership skills, such as the ability to motivate a team and provide feedback
