Safety Coordinator Job at Calavo Growers Inc
SUMMARY
Safety Coordinator will be responsible for the Safety Management Program as well as implementation of the Injury Illness and Prevention Plan. Their main duty is to ensure that the company complies and adheres to Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) guidelines to reduce work-related injuries. The position has employee training and compliance responsibilities. Prepare and present reports on accidents, violations, waste, recycling, and energy consumption.
TASKS
- Implement and manage OHS policies and programs through the guidance of our National Safety Manager
- Advise and lead employees on various safety-related topics
- Deliver educational safety awareness huddles on a regular basis
- Drive existing policies and procedures at the facility
- Adhere to all the rules and regulations
- Work with HR to set up a new employee on-boarding process for safety
- Conduct risk assessments
- Enforce preventative measures
- Identify process bottlenecks and offer timely solutions
- Check if all the employees are acting in adherence with rules and regulations
- Prepare and present reports on accidents and violations and determine causes
- Oversee workplace repair, installations and any other work that could harm employees' safety
- With the help of HR, ensure facility is managing its DOT Program
- Ensure facility is performing Safety management preventive measures, identifying corrective actions and managing their completion
- Implement and manage Sustainability policies and programs through the guidance of our National Safety Manager
- Prepare and present reports on waste management, recycling, and energy consumption for facility
- Identify and manage corrective action measures to reduce waste, energy consumption and Green House emissions
QUALIFICATIONS

KNOWLEDGE
- 2 years of experience as a Safety Coordinator or similar role
- Knowledge of legislations and procedures
- Knowledge of potentially hazardous materials or practices
- 2 years of experience in producing reports
- Experience with writing and/or implementing policies and procedures for health and safety
- Familiarity with conducting data analysis and reporting statistics
- Proficient in MS Office
- Working knowledge of safety management information system
- Outstanding organizational skills
- Critical thinker and problem-solving skills
- Team player
- Good time-management skills
- Great interpersonal and communication skills
- Certificate in occupational health and safety preferred

EDUCATION/CERTIFICATIONS
- High School diploma required
- A minimum of 6 months experience working in food manufacturing environment applying common processes, procedures, and equipment
- Demonstrated experience in developing and managing a training program for a multi-faceted manufacturing organization
- Experience applying and enforcing routine Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP’s) in a chilled food environment is essential
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
While performing the duties of this Job, the employee is regularly required to walk, sit, stand, reach, and bend for length of the shift. The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
WORK ENVIRONMENT
- Working in cold working environment required (approximately 37F)
FOOD SAFETY & FOOD SECURITY RESPONSIBILITY
All persons within the company have responsibilities to ensure that threats to the safety and security of our final product are minimized. Responsibilities for this position include:
- Compliance with GH Foods’ Good Manufacturing Practices [GMPs]
