WHAT WE’RE LOOKING FOR
The Transportation Route Planner will report to the route planning supervisor and ensure that optimal routes are created daily to support on time deliveries to our customers while maintaining profitability. The route planner will be responsible for routing accounts in an assigned geographical territory. You will employ strong communication, leadership and analytical skills to ensure daily routes are the most efficient, cost effective and aligned to the goals of the transportation department.
Essential Job Functions:
- Execute daily route planning process by building routes that are efficient, cost effective, and geographically sound and aligned with driver work time and HOS restrictions.
- Proactively review routes in assigned territory to ensure that the sequence and location of stops are in line with the goals of the transportation manager.
- Utilize critical thinking and problem resolution to provide innovative solutions for repetitive service challenges within assigned territory. Such as overlapping of routes and extended idle times.
- Perform daily checks to ensure all new customers are properly setup and permanently assigned to a master route.
- Solicit feedback from drivers, dispatch, transportation analyst and other relevant parties to help in improving route planning decision making.
- Continuously validate and update customer information critical for on time deliveries, namely customer delivery address, delivery window and master route assignment.
- In collaboration with route supervisor develop and maintain route planning manual.
- Communicate information relevant for effective loading and dispatching of routes to the route supervisor, dispatch group and transportation manager as needed.
- Respond to routing inquires in a timely manner.
- Perform other task as needed.
Qualifications:
- High School Diploma Required
- 1-3 Years experience as a driver and/or transportation logistics experience preferred
- Bilingual Spanish speaking preferred.
