DESCRIPTION
As an essential member of Nutrition Services, the Room Service Attendant (RSA) is dedicated to providing exceptional quality and service to patients on the assigned inpatient floor. The RSA is the designated meal service contact for patients, ensuring all service interactions are to UCSD Health System standards of excellence for quality, professionalism, and friendliness. Under general supervision, provides high quality, personalized customer service with focused attention to detail. Obtains and honors patient food selections and preferences. Delivers meals, snacks, and beverages in a timely fashion.
Accurately follows appropriate patient identification procedures and diet orders. Utilizes current food service ordering software and technology with proficiency. Independently manages time with the utmost efficiency, and responds promptly to patient telephone requests. Responsible for handling all concerns related to meal service, verifying accuracy of orders, quality of presentation, and the provision of solutions through service recovery. Strives to meet and exceed patient and Health System expectations. Adheres to departmental policies and procedures. Upholds the Health System core values and CARING standards. Performs other related duties as assigned.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Two (2) years of professional experience in a quality food or hospitality service operation, or institutional food service role; or an equivalent combination of education (High School Diploma/GED) and experience.
Must possess the knowledge and abilities essential to the successful performance of the assigned position.
Ability to set and deliver quality meal service as ordered, on time, hot and in accordance with hospital standards.
Proven food and beverage knowledge. Thorough knowledge of quality food service techniques and standards.
Must be fluent in English (reading, writing and speaking).
Exhibits a professional attitude. Must be well-versed in hospitality, attention to detail, and quality control.
Must maintain confidentiality at all times and remain calm in stressful situations.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Degree in Nutrition or related field.
- Training in food and/or hospitality services.
- Room service experience.
SPECIAL CONDITIONS
- Ability to work flexible locations and schedules, to include weekends and holidays.
- Constant standing, walking and bending. Ability to lift and carry food service trays.
- Employment is subject to a criminal background check and pre-employment physical.
Pay Transparency Act Full Salary Range: $45,289 - $56,334 Annually
The University of California, San Diego is required to provide a reasonable estimate of the compensation range for this role. This range takes into account the wide range of factors that are considered in making compensation decisions including but not limited to experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure and certifications, and other business and organizational needs. It is not typical for an individual to be offered a salary at or near the top of the range for a position. Salary offers are determined based on final candidate qualifications and experience. The full salary range for this position is defined as the Full Pay Range. The budgeted salary or hourly range that the University reasonably expects to pay for this position defined as the Expected Pay Scale. Placement within the Expected Pay Scale is determined by internal equity, relevant qualifications, and collective bargaining agreements (when applicable).
Job offer is contingent on successful engagement in the UC COVID-19 Vaccination program (fully vaccinated with documented proof or approved exception/deferral).
If applicable, life-support certifications (BLS, NRP, ACLS, etc.) must include hands-on practice and in-person skills assessment; online-only certification is not acceptable.
