RESEARCHER V Job at University of Alabama at Birmingham
The University of Alabama at Birmingham, Heersink School of Medicine, is seeking Researcher V to advance pneumococcal capsule biology research in a collaborative work environment. The position is available in the laboratory of Juan Calix, MD, PhD, in the Division of Infectious Diseases.
We are seeking a highly motivated individual with experience in general laboratory procedures and pneumococcal capsule expertise to become a long-term part of our laboratory team, help with training others, and contribute to the processes that will shape our future success. Individuals in this position will be empowered to create and implement procedures to be adapted by others in the lab, in order to ensure the effective and efficient day-to-day research productivity. This Individual will also be in charge of developing, executing and documenting research protocols that will be used on a regular basis in the lab.
The NIH-funded Calix Lab (Est. 2021) takes a translational research strategy to investigate the propagation of modern-day infections among at-risk hosts, with current focus on carbapenem-resistant Acinetobacter and non-vaccine serotypes of Streptococcus pneumoniae (pneumococcus). Our goal is to identify pathobiological choke points centering on microbial surface glycans (i.e., capsule), to aid efforts against increasingly relevant bacterial pathogens.
Under leadership of the laboratory Principle Investigator, the ideal candidate will develop and implement protocols that will direct research direction and govern the day-to-day management of the lab, including the upkeep of research data, lab supplies and biospecimens inventories; and being able to communicate and enforce these protocols with current and future lab members. This, along with this individual's research output, will strongly impact the future direction, running and productivity of the laboratory.
