Research Support Specialist


Required Qualifications (as evidenced by an attached resume):
Bachelor's Degree (foreign equivalent or higher). Scientific research experience and/or laboratory research experience. Experience in operating equipment, carrying out test procedures, and using special methods for data collation and interpretation.

Preferred Qualifications:
Bachelor's Degree (foreign equivalent or higher) in Biology, Chemistry or equivalent field of study. One (1) year of full-time related lab experience. Proficiency with Microsoft Excel and PowerPoint. Experience with small animal handling i.e. mouse or rat handling and cell culture.

Brief Description of Duties:
This position will be in the laboratory of Dr. David Montrose at Stony Brook Medicine (www.montroselab.org). The research focus of this lab is to investigate how cellular metabolism, gut microbes and diet impact the pathogenesis of colorectal cancer and inflammatory bowel disease. This work involves the use of genetically engineered mouse and cell culture models. The research support specialist will need to possess excellent organizational skills in order to support Dr. Montrose’s laboratory.

Duties:

  • The maintenance of mouse colonies (genotyping, breeding, etc.);
  • Execution of mouse and cell culture experiments and data analysis;
  • Interacting with vendors and ordering supplies.
  • Administrative tasks and other duties as assigned with the scope of the position.
  • Other duties as assigned.
