The salary of the finalist selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to departmental budgets, qualifications, experience, education, licenses, specialty, and training. The above hiring range represents the University's good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting.

Position Summary

The Neurology Department of Columbia University Irving Medical Center is seeking a board-certified genetic counselor with a strong research background to support genetic research in the department, including studies of novel precision therapies to treat genetic neurological disease.

Responsibilities

The genetic counselor will interface with regulatory bodies, such as the FDA and institutional IRB, ensure compliant implementation of study protocols, collect and manage study data, and coordinate study procedures and visits. Other responsibilities include consenting study participants, providing counseling for research genetic evaluations, and variant analysis and interpretation. The genetic counselor will also be expected to participate in genetics education efforts within the department.

Minimum Qualifications

Requires a bachelor's degree or equivalent in education, training and experience, plus four years of related experience.

Preferred Qualifications

Master’s in genetic counseling

Experience with clinical trials and quantitative and qualitative research preferred.

Familiarity with genetic research and/or clinical aspects of neurological disorders (e.g., epilepsy, ALS) preferred.

Other Requirements

Must have strong organizational and problem-solving skills, meticulous attention to detail, and the ability to juggle multiple tasks.

Must be self-motivated, flexible, and able to work independently, effectively manage others, and think creatively.

Must have excellent interpersonal and written communication skills, including the ability to interact effectively with faculty and staff, researchers at other institutions, and research participants.
