POSITION SUMMARY:

This position is for a ‘Research Fellow,’ who will conduct research in the area of immunoregulation in Ocular Inflammatory Disease. Specifically, the fellow will contribute to designing on-demand bioactive eluting smart contact lenses to accelerate cures and restore vision in patients with corneal inflammatory conditions such as corneal injury, neovascularization, and transplant rejection using animal (murine) models.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

• Design and execute in vitro and in vivo (murine model) experiments required to achieve research aims in a project
• Meet regularly with the mentor to review project status, and design new research strategies for the progression of the research project.
• Read, analyze and summarize published literature to know current research work and gain intellectual and technical expertise in the field.
• Write a final report or submit a manuscript to a peer-reviewed journal describing the project and results
• Prepare presentations and exhibit research work in various national and international scientific meetings and conferences
• Undertake relevant coursework if required by the mentor.
• Attend relevant meetings
• Take administrative (inventory, purchasing, etc. ) responsibilities in the lab when necessary

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

Doctoral degree (MD or PhD) with >6 months of pre/postdoc lab research experience

Lab setting

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

Possible lifting of 10 to 20 lbs., depending on nature of chosen project(s).
