The Research and Development (R&D) Operations Manager identifies needed improvements for business processes and operations to increase overall productivity, increase efficiencies, safety and lower operational costs. This position is also responsible for creating processes and procedures to meet business objectives for all R&D locations.


The employee's primary duty must be the performance of office or non-manual work directly related to the management or general business operations of Helena R&D and its collaborators. This also includes the exercise of discretion and independent judgement with respect to matters of significance.


What your day may look like

  • Serves as a resource to branch leadership and assists with specific improvement activities within the branch.
  • Manages and oversees all regulatory and compliance training, and program facilitation.
    • Works with county and state agencies for the creation of modules for applications of EU/RA's, notices of intent, use reporting and location audits.
    • Design and implementation of certifications, safety training and record keeping of R&D staff.
    • Interface with Environmental Safety Specialist for special tasks and safety protocol implementation.
    • Annual medical and respiratory fit testing and PPE supply.
  • Oversees financial operations of department.
    • Assists branches with the budgeting for, justification and utilization of capital and lease requests.
    • Oversees Account Receivable and Accounts Payable processes.
    • Reviews monthly P&L's for R&D locations.
  • Performs system management of the following computer applications: Agvance, Oracle, Power BI, and R&D data warehouse.
  • Serves at the point of contact for R&D contracts, processing and record keeping.
  • Assists in the management and maintenance of all R&D facilities.
    • Conducts quarterly safety inspections and reporting.
  • Assists locations for inventory management and loss control.
  • Management and oversight of all human resource related issues:
    • New staff onboarding and safety training.
    • Incidence reporting
    • Assists with staff recruitment and retention.
    • GROW Platform implementation and completion.
  • Asset management, equipment operation safety & training and maintenance coordination.
  • R&D Quality Control
    • Oversight in uniformity of creation of study booklets, forms/documentation, data entry and timelines.
    • Work scheduling software and implementation.
  • Other work-related duties as assigned by leader.
  • Reliable and regular attendance is expected.

Education and experience needed for this position

  • Bachelor's degree or technical school certificate is required.
  • Three to five years of operations, sales or branch management experience in a related field is required.
  • Agricultural experience is preferred.
  • Finance/Accounting skills and experience are required.
  • Combination of education and experience will be considered.

Other skills that will help you succeed

  • Leadership skills including coordinating weekly and monthly team meetings.
  • Ability to multi-task (i.e. dispatch trucks and equipment per client orders).
  • Fabricating and heavy truck experience is preferred.
  • Ability to manage safety regulations.
  • Working knowledge of Helena products is preferred.
  • Ability to travel up to 10% is required.
  • Written and verbal communication skills.
  • Motivated and a self-starter.

The work environment for this position may require the employee to work in an outdoor setting in all types of weather conditions with exposure to outdoor elements. When working outdoors and possibly around moving equipment/mechanical parts, the employee may be exposed to fumes, airborne particles, chemical and biological hazards, vibrations and a risk of electrical shock. This position requires you to use your hands for many different tasks and to talk, hear, walk, stand and sit. You may be occasionally required to lift or move up to 50 pounds.
