DESCRIPTION

The Debug Project is seeking a motivated research associate to work with our science team. As a member of the science team, you will contribute to the development, evaluation and improvement of both novel and existing vector control products in our portfolio. You will develop and run various molecular, genetic, biochemical and bionomic assays relevant to our R&D pipeline, and support Debug scientists in ongoing research to diversify and improve Debug product offerings.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Participate in the development of novel insect control products for the Debug product portfolio.
  • Conduct research on mosquito molecular biology, genetics and physiology relevant to Debug project goals.
  • Develop and run laboratory and field-based bioassays to assess insect health, fitness and male mating competitiveness.
  • Test, implement and contribute to the improvement of our existing production pipeline for sterile insects, including mass rearing, sex separation and sterilization.

QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in biology, genetics, entomology or a related discipline.
  • Previous experience with molecular biology and insect husbandry/research.
  • Meticulous attention to detail and strong organization and time management skills necessary for balancing multiple experiments simultaneously.
  • Willingness to work with insects and carry out rearing tasks in hot, humid conditions.

Preferred qualifications:

  • Experience working with mosquitoes, including collection, husbandry, dissection and genetics.
  • Experience with molecular biology techniques including nucleic acid extraction, PCR, qPCR and NGS library prep.
  • Experience conducting and collecting/analyzing data for complex, multifaceted experiments.
  • Ability and willingness to work flexible hours, within reason, to support the success of the overall project.

The US base salary range for this full-time position is $78,000-$120,000 + bonus + equity + benefits. Our salary ranges are determined by role, level, and location. The range displayed on each job posting reflects the minimum and maximum target for new hire salaries for the position across all US locations. Within the range, individual pay is determined by work location and additional factors, including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training.
