Research Assistant - Annis Water Resources Institute (Full-time, 12 month Adjunct) Job at Grand Valley State University
Summary: Join the Steinman Lab at the Annis Water Resources Institute (AWRI), operating out of GVSU’s Lake Michigan Center in Muskegon, MI. Assist lab with fieldwork activities in watersheds throughout west Michigan with projects likely including and not limited to lake water quality monitoring; wetland restoration monitoring; sediment phosphorus investigations; lake salinization investigations; and aquatic macrophyte surveys. Assist with data entry, analysis, and reporting. This position is contingent upon the receipt of grant funds.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree (required) or Master’s degree (preferred) in a field related to aquatic sciences such as environmental science, natural resources, biology, or limnology.
- Experience in the following: conducting field investigations; collecting and analyzing samples in the field and laboratory; data analysis and report writing; and working in a collaborative, interdisciplinary setting.
- Attention to detail in field, laboratory, and computer-based research.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to occasionally work long days outside of normal work hours or in inclement weather conditions.
- Preference will be given to applicants with experience working in aquatic ecosystems and who have a valid state driver’s license.
- This is an initial 12-month position, with extension possible.
Responsibilities:

- Assist with data entry, analysis, and reporting.
Salary: $35,000 to $40,000 per year commensurate with experience and qualifications.
