Job Summary

The Registered Dietitian (RD) performs medium and high-risk nutrition counseling services for participants on the Special Supplemental Nutrition Program for Women, Infants, and Children (WIC) at Mountain Park Health Center (MPHC); this includes but is not limited to formula authorization, and as necessary, Certification of clients.

Essential Functions

  • Perform WIC services and procedures such as categorical and income screening and health and nutrition assessments in accordance with local, state, and federal regulations and procedures.
  • Assesses and documents findings of the nutrition status of program participants.
  • Training and mentoring employees.
  • Plans, creates, and provides individual and group nutrition and breastfeeding education to medium and high-risk participants, providers, and professional staff utilizing interactive teaching methods and diverse multi-media materials and aids.
  • Assists in developing policies and procedures to ensure nutrition objectives and interventions are consistent with accepted nutrition and public health guidelines.
  • Consults with physicians and other healthcare professionals regarding clinical nutrition issues or concerns, including customizing individual meal plans for program participants with medical needs.
  • Develops staff skills and knowledge regarding nutrition and delivery of nutrition services through training, coaching, and mentoring.
  • Provides breastfeeding support and promotes a culture of breastfeeding.
  • Assigns and tailors an appropriate food package for eligible participants based on age, category, health risks, and family needs and issues WIC food benefits.
  • Reviews and authorizes special formulas and documents approved in HANDS.
  • Issues WIC food benefits to eligible participants.
  • Evaluates WIC applicants and participant’s needs for health care, financial, and social assistance in order to make and document appropriate referrals.
  • Develops and revises nutrition education materials as assigned.
  • Assists with the MPHC Self-Assessment efforts by conducting assigned observations and chart reviews.

· Assesses staff needs and coordinates staff development activities and trainings.

  • Plans, implements, and participates in outreach activities as assigned.
  • Serves as preceptor to incoming dietetic interns and provides mentoring.
  • Attends meetings, trainings, and conferences as assigned.
  • This position requires consistent, in-person attendance at the employee’s assigned clinic. However, based on the employee’s performance and the specific task the employee is accomplishing, limited remote work may be permissible.
  • Travel to multiple locations during shift.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Position Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:

· Registered Dietitian certification

· Valid driver’s license

Preferred Qualifications:

· Experience in, or related field

· Bilingual in English and Spanish

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $55,000.00 - $65,000.00 per year
