Responsibilities:
- Represents the company in an assigned field territory, with responsibility for the marketing and profitable production of surety business through corporate distribution channels.
- Responsible for driving profit through quality risk selection and exposure control while collaborating with underwriting team to ensure departmental service standards and appropriate risk selections are maintained. Submits for approval all risks in excess of authority.
- Responsible for the prospecting and development of new agencies within an assigned territory as well as building and maintaining strong agency and customer relationships.
- Leads efforts to analyze new and existing business opportunities from an exposure, service and sales perspective.
- Executes a sales and underwriting plan that allows for a balance of agency and/or customer visits, engagement in industry related events and exposure, and dedicated time to underwrite and maintain appropriate risk selection for profitable growth.
- Works with Surety Sales Leader to create and implement both short and long term profitable growth strategies, establishes budgets, ensures expense control, and provides relevant marketing and underwriting information to develop a business plan.
- Responsible for helping ensure the company’s competitive position, robust marketing plans, and ongoing continuous improvement efforts.
- Performs human capital management responsibilities including employee selection, performance management, coaching, and development. Manages priorities and workload distribution, and removes barriers that impede progress. Completes all personnel, salary administration, and reporting duties. Performs operational responsibilities that drive team performance including planning, execution, process improvement and best-practice sharing.
- Establishes objectives for underwriting and support staff in the areas of underwriting, agency and customer relationships and marketing.
- Establishes and maintains effective communication externally (between agents and company) internally (with underwriters and Surety Leadership Team) regarding underwriting procedures and practices, growth/profit goals and objectives, state/territory issues and regulations, industry activity and trends and agency relations.
- Travels as often as needed including regular utilization of assigned fleet vehicle in order to cover assigned territory. This may involve traveling on short notice or other daily driving duties as assigned regardless of location.
Qualifications:
- Minimum 7 years of Surety and/or financial services experience with at least 5 years of Surety experience.
- Experience with financial analysis and risk assessment for profitable underwriting of the most complex accounts.
- Experience building relationships and collaborating with agents and customers with a focus on marketing new business and servicing existing accounts.
- Highly effective negotiation skills.
- Experience training, coaching, and mentoring others.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
- Strong written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.
- Strong attention to detail.
- Strong organizational skills gained through previous work experiences.
- Experience maintaining a high degree of customer service.
- Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college OR commensurate work experience.
- Valid driver’s license and a driving record that conforms to company standards.
- Physical essential functions: ability to work 40 hours in an office environment (sitting, standing, on a computer, etc.), operate office related technology (computer, phone, etc.), travel as required.
