The Regional Sales Manager is the primary representative of the Company in the assigned markets with direct customer and distributor account management responsibility. Our product line is sold to the highway/roadway segment of the transportation industry, as well as other jurisdictions responsible for roadway safety products. Selling consists of introducing product line concepts, product demonstrations, instituting product specifications, and assisting with installations and providing in-field customer service.
What You'll Do:
- Recommend, develop and implement sales plans and programs to increase sales and meet Company objectives for assigned territory
- Achieve sales revenue targets and complete other sales objectives as directed in the Sales Forecast and Sales Plan
- Submit monthly activity reports and sales call or trip reports to the Regional Team Leader and Vice President of Sales
- Call on federal, state, city and local highway/roadway personnel, specifically to introduce the technical concepts and benefits of the Company’s products and gain product acceptance and favorable product specifications on highway/roadway projects
- Understand highway/roadway financing and establishing, through highway/roadway agencies, the projects which will utilize one of the many forms of this federal financing; provide liaison between the Company’s engineering staff and the users in regards to the technical data and unit recommendations
- Complete sale and proper bid/contract paperwork as required for valid sales orders
- Obtain the bid plans and specifications and do the take-off of quantities and details upon which quotes are then made in all states with direct coverage
- Obtain purchase orders and assist in securing credit information from the customers
- Provide liaison support between Engineering and Sales support staff and the customers in regard to the technical data and product recommendations
- Provide technical assistance and gather reports of product performance in the field and submit timely feedback to the Vice President of Sales
- Supervise assigned distributors in sales territory: Directly responsible for calls upon, working with and stimulation of, and providing marketing assistance to all distributors located in the territory
- Act as the primary liaison with distributors for technical and service assistance that the Company provides to its distributors
- Monitor and implement inventory requirements
- Provide feedback on the Company’s business relationship with its distributors for all phases of distributor operation (i.e., contract status, inventory level requirements, etc.)
- Provide assistance, as requested, to persons doing the unit installations to ensure accurate installation and assembly of products and systems
- Work with others within the sales department and within other departments in a professional manner to develop cooperative working relationships
- Assist Marketing in preparing PR articles, ads, films and market forecasts as requested
- Convey ideas and needs to Marketing to help identify the needs for marketing tools and programs. The Regional Sales Manager must be alert of customer feedback to suggested modifications of current product lines, and are responsible for presenting feedback to the Company. In addition, ideas for new product needs must also be forwarded to the Vice President of Sales.
- Attend national and local trade organization meetings
- Perform other duties and assignments as designated by supervisor
Qualifications
What You'll Need:
- Bachelor's Degree in Business, Engineering or a related field. Preferably with 5 years sales experience in selling technical products or concepts, or 3 years selling related products in the roadway/highway industry
- Experience selling to Departments of Transportation or Roadway agencies is highly desirable
- Proven sales record, excellent personal scheduling and time management skills as well as outstanding interpersonal and organizational skills
- Knowledge of computer skills for use in analysis of sales and marketing data
- Ability to travel extensively throughout defined territory and other locations
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills; ability to make oral presentations to groups of people; ability to perform basic math calculations
- Ability to obtain and maintain driver’s license and operate a vehicle
- Ability to install products at remote sites, which may include bending, lifting, and holding parts; good mobility, hearing, near and far vision capabilities required
