The Town of Belleair is excited to announce that we are hiring for a Recreation Programmer I to join the Belleair Team. The successful candidate will be a highly responsible professional and instructional position performing a variety of duties for the Town's recreation and leisure services, facilities and programs including organizing, supervising and participating in athletic programs, instructional programs, leagues, seasonal camps and related events, and other special community events. Responsible for recreational facilities and their readiness for use and maintenance. Leads and instructs program participants of all ages and the program instructors, counselors and volunteers. Performs a variety of administrative duties related to the day-to-day operation of the department, facilities and programs. Exercises some independent judgment in carrying out the day-to-day responsibilities within established departmental and Town policies and procedures. The essential functions for the position may include the following:

  • Design and produce program, camp and special event flyers; design quarterly schedule brochures advertising all programs and facility schedule; submit press releases; research new and innovative ideas for programs and marketing.
  • Assists the Recreation Department Supervisor with the summer, holiday, spring and other specialty camps. Assists summer camp director; handles all aspects of the registration process; designs registration process and all pertinent forms, collects fees, posts monies and develops sign-in sheets. Assist summer camp director with hiring, training, supervising task assignment of all summer camp counselors and the counselor-in-training program.
  • Assists with the department’s website and social media platforms. Works with Communications staff to ensure website and/or social media platforms are current, operational, user friendly, well researched and properly advertised.
  • Supports the general operations of the front desk. Ensures all cash, check and credit receipts, reporting, auditing and posting of program, concession and all other monies are entered accurately and in a timely manner. Works with department employees to ensure excellent customer service and training. that is provided by the department. Responsible for cleanliness and presentation of desk/work area and the inventory and purchase of office supplies.
  • Works as liaison with event organizers for special events and recruits volunteers, as needed.
  • Participates in the recruitment process of contract instructors for youth and/or adult programs and ensures that the appropriate training, time reporting, etc. is correctly documented..
  • Assists with aspects of recreation leagues. Handles registration process and design, marketing, advertising, enrollment, team separation, ordering of uniforms and awards, scheduling referees and awards party.
  • Enforces rules and regulations of the department and ensures all programs and classes are set up and safe.
  • Other duties as assigned by the supervisor.

Qualifications

* A minimum of four (4) years experience in organized recreation is required. * Graduation from an accredited four year college or university with a bachelor’s degree in recreation, leisure services, physical education or related field is preferred. * An equivalent combination of education, training and experience may be substituted for the above requirements.

Special Requirements

* Valid Florida Driver’s License preferred * Knowledge of Computers and Microsoft Suite experience a plus * Summer camp and youth sports league experience preferred
