Job Description

The Recreation Coordinator is responsible for the day-to-day and overall operations of our community youth and adult recreation programs, ensuring our mission to enhance enjoyment and skill development for participating children and adults. The successful candidate oversees the establishment, promotion and coordination of sports leagues, community service programs, recreational classes, and special events as well as coordinates reservations and rentals of city facilities, as directed. The Recreation Coordinator helps ensure the City and its staff provide the best recreational experience for the citizens and guests in our community.

The ideal candidate has a college degree in recreation and sports management or a related field, with two years' experience in the administration of sports and recreational programming. Also, excellent customer service experience a plus. Experience in lieu of education can be substituted on a year-to-year basis. Also, the ideal candidate should have at least one year of supervisory experience. Positive communication and interpersonal skills and excellent computer skills are required. Current CPR, AED, and First Aid certifications a plus.

RESPONSIBILITIES (representative sample):

  • Develops, implements, and promotes a variety of fun and educational programs and activities.
  • Supervises and monitors assigned staff and vendors providing direct service to the citizens and guests.
  • Ensures proper insurance documentation and coverage by vendors, participants, and the City.
  • Performs routine facility maintenance such as set up and takedown of tables, chairs, equipment, and supplies specific to a location or an activity.
  • Coordinates field and facility reservations and rentals.
  • Maintains upkeep and accounting of sports and program-related inventory and equipment.
  • Represents the city professionally and courteously to vendors, guests, and citizens practicing exception customer service strategies.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.


QUALIFICATIONS

  • College degree in recreation and sports management, or related field, preferred.
  • At least two years of relevant experience.
  • At least one year of supervisory experience, preferred..
  • Pleasant/friendly demeanor and an outgoing personality.
  • Positive communication, customer service, and problem solving skills, including the ability to maintain composure under stress
  • Ability to interact with participants of all ages.
  • Excellent computer skills, including Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook) and the internet.
  • Able to bend, kneel, squat, stand, and lift heavy objects as needed.
  • Current CPR, First Aid, and AED certifications or the ability to obtain such certifications within six months of employment.
