Seneca's hiring a Reading Intervention Specialist to create and implement an engaging and culturally-relevant ELA curriculum that can adapt to the individual needs of grades 5-12 students at James Baldwin Academy in San Leandro, CA. Our Reading Intervention Specialists collaborate with special education teachers, school therapists, and classroom counselors to reimagine education by fostering classrooms that connect students to therapeutic services, community resources, and a highly personalized academic curriculum.

Seneca’s James Baldwin Academy serves 50 students in grades 5-12, providing special education services to students with a variety of mental health needs. In five small classrooms, they provide individualized attention and direct instruction in core areas to help students make adequate yearly progress on their Individualized Education Plan (IEP) goals while adhering to a general education standards-based curriculum. - Create and implement James Baldwin Academy's ELA curriculum
- Teach ELA remediation groups and conduct targeted literacy interventions
- Develop school-wide practices and community partnerships that help students and their caregivers grow in literacy outside of the classroom
- Collaborate with James Baldwin Academy's Leadership team in planning professional development around literacy
- Current California Mild or Moderate Specialist Credential OR currently enrolled in a credential program
- Master's degree in Literacy or a related field (a bachelor's degree and related experience may suffice)
- TB test clearance, fingerprints, and any other state or federal requirements
- Proof of COVID-19 vaccination and booster
- Demonstrated success in and passion for literacy instruction within a special education setting
- Full-time, school-based schedule
- 5 weeks of paid time off, 11 paid holidays, and additional paid school break days
- Starting at $76,000-90,000 per year, with actual salary dependent on creditable experience above the minimum qualifications for the role
- Salary increase upon passing a bilingual language proficiency exam
- $2000 sign-on bonus for new Seneca employees
