DEPARTMENT OVERVIEW
Radio Engineering consists of four team members and is part of GBH’s Technology department. It supports the radio broadcast operations of the Foundation. In addition to building and maintaining the broadcast facilities, Engineering provides technical and operational support for GBH, winner of the 2020 and 2021 Edward R. Murrow Regional Award for Overall Excellence, is an NPR news affiliate with expanding local news and issues programming. It is part of GBH’s multiplatform local news operation. GBH has remote studios in Worcester, The State House, and The Boston Public Library. GBH also does several hours of Celtic and Jazz programming weekends, including occasional live music.
CRB, Classical Radio Boston. In addition to the classical music programming, CRB does live broadcasts of the Boston Symphony and Tanglewood. The station has earned two Grammy Awards and multiple local Emmy Awards for work done in its music recording studio.
CAI, The Cape, and Islands, an NPR affiliate, located in historic Woods Hole, with local news and issues programming.
The World, a nationally distributed daily radio news magazine, with a focus on international news. Radio Engineering works closely with its TV counterpart and the GBH IT department.
JOB OVERVIEW
The technical operations, upgrades and maintenance of the GBH Educational Foundation radio-broadcast facilities. Including NPR affiliates GBH and WCAI (Cape and Islands); Classical WCRB which includes BSO broadcasts and a recording studio; and the World, a daily national radio news magazine.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Contribute to the installation and maintenance of all radio broadcast equipment and monitoring of off-air broadcasts and digital streams.
- Respond to technical emergencies as required. Coordinate with and support other “Technology” teams and resources to resolve the issue
- Maintain accurate records, discrepancy reports, and follow-through communications that ensures all on-air broadcast programming complies GBH standards and FCC rules and regulations.
- Maintain contact with Content Depot and all other content distribution centers.
- Schedule and coordinate activities related to automation changes, train and support operational staff in broadcast audio systems
- Interface with the IT department for computer upgrades, software updates, telephones and all IP related equipment
- Build effective relationships with the news and broadcast staff, and the other technical teams
- Ensure broadcast systems reliability through proper maintenance and best practice
- Assist and support broadcast staff with technology changes.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent work experience. Experience working with diverse, cross-functional teams composed of both technical and non-technical members.Interests in Music, News, digital platforms, and other related interests are a plus.
