Location: White City, OR
Employment Status: Full-Time

FLSA Status: Exempt

Work Schedule: Monday-Friday, 7:00AM through 4:30PM.

Position Summary: Aldevra is currently recruiting for a Radiation Safety Officer (RSO) to support the VA Southern Oregon Rehabilitation Center & Clinics (SORCC) in White City, OR by providing regulatory oversight for the Nuclear Regulatory Commission master materials license issued to VHA to include permitting for use of materials, on-site inspections, and investigations of allegations, medical events, and incidents.

Please note: Telework may be possible but employee must attend quarterly meetings and respond to emergencies as requested by the facility as needed.

This position is contingent upon contract award.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

The essential functions include, but are not limited to the following:

  • Responsible for managing the Radiation Protection Program
  • Identify radiation protection problems. Initiate, recommend, or provide corrective actions and verify implementation of corrective actions and stop unsafe activities
  • Provide oversight of the VA SORCC Imaging department for the safe use of radioactive materials
  • Establish committee membership to include the Radiation Safety Officer, a management representative, and a representative for each type of authorized use and a representative from Nursing Service
  • Hold meetings at intervals not to exceed 6 calendar months; and establish a committee quorum of at least one-half of committee membership for meetings which must include the Radiation Safety Officer and management representative
  • Prepare records and report committee results as required by executive management and/or Title 10 Code of Federal Regulations (CFR), Part 35; and ensure the records document executive management approvals for actions
  • Coordinate with other medical facility committees as needed and reporting results of committee meetings to executive management or other medical facility oversight committees.
  • Be reachable both through telecommunications and the Internet during normal business hours of operation at the facility
  • Oversee annual radiation safety program review and provide oversight for radiation program through periodic reviews and audits
  • Ensure that sealed source inventories are completed
  • Ensure compliance with posting requirements
  • Providing information to workers at the various locations of use or work centers, especially satellite locations of use, on current radiation safety program and regulatory issues, as needed, using NHPP Intranet Web site, periodic newsletters, and other information resources made available to permittees
  • Be available onsite within a reasonable amount of time for Emergencies as per regulatory policy, such as accidental Exposure to Radioactive Material and accidental spills

Requirements:

Security Requirements:

  • Must be able to obtain VA PIV badge
  • Follow all local, state, and federal regulations involving oversight of the Radiation Safety Program at the VA SORCC

This position requires passing an extensive background check.

Qualifications:

  • Active medical-use radioactive license and have been named as RSO on another similar license
  • Be approved by the VA National Health Physics Program (NHHP) to act as the RSO for the VA SORCC radioactive materials permit
  • Extensive experience with administering radioactive materials to patients
  • Carry out all interactions with the utmost professionalism.
  • Valid driver's license
  • Excellent verbal communication skills and telephone manner
  • Excellent and accurate written communication
  • Familiarity with Windows operating systems; online calendars and cloud systems; intermediate to advanced skills Microsoft office products required
  • Excellent attention to detail; accurate data entry
  • Customer Focused and team-oriented work ethic
  • Able to multi-task efficiently and accurately, focusing on quality
