Job Description:
First Principles Materials Modeling and Advanced Atomistic and Device Level Simulations

Participate in building the next generation of high performance devices to be employed in future ultrafast electronic gadgets as mobile phones, smart watches, iPads, computers, Internet of Things (IoT) and Artificial Intelligence (AI). Your expertise in rigorous and reliable atomistic high-throughput materials modeling will be essential to advance device optimization and to achieve breakthroughs in computer chip design.
Projects in the TCAD group are wide ranged from simulations of properties of metals, oxides to semiconductors present in various device structures. Materials optimizations and the ability to predict properties relevant to novel high-tech devices is becoming the central requirement to design high performance computer architectures and AI applications.
Responsibilities:
- Perform research and development work employing first principles techniques to calculate relevant materials properties and explore new device structures.
- Work with multifunctional teams which include experimental colleagues in process, device and integration modules, as well as interface results with device and circuit simulators to drive technology developments.
- Design and carry out materials simulations and participate in the development of relevant computational tools.
Requirements:
- Ph.D. degree in Physics, Applied Physics, Applied Mathematics, Materials Science and Engineering, Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Electrical Engineering or related disciplines.
- Solid background in density functional theory based atomistic modeling.
- Experience with ab initio and/or classical molecular dynamics simulations.
- Familiarity with high-throughput calculations, database building and machine learning techniques.
- Expertise in Python, Perl, C++, C, Fortran, or equivalent computer programming languages.
- Experience developing computer software to accelerate materials simulations of relevant physical properties.
- Ability to engage in hands-on participation and effectively manage time and resources.
- Efficiency in addressing and learning new topics and strong technical problem-solving and analytical skills.
- Excellent verbal and written communication, interpersonal skills and desire to work in collaborative, multidisciplinary teams.

At TSMC, your base pay is only part of your overall total compensation package. At the time of this posting, this role typically pays a base salary between 121,500 and 191,000. The range displayed reflects the minimum and maximum target for new hires. Actual pay may be more or less than the posted range. Factors that influence pay include the individual's skills, qualifications, education, experience and the position level and location.
