What You Will Do
The Safeguards Science & Technology group, NEN-1, of the Nuclear Engineering and Nonproliferation (NEN) division is seeking qualified Group Leader (GL) applicants to lead a highly motivated and enthusiastic group to successfully deliver on the nation's nuclear nonproliferation mission. NEN-1's primary mission is developing and deploying nondestructive technologies, concepts, and training in support of domestic and international nuclear safeguards, nuclear security, and nonproliferation objectives. The group's core competencies and R&D areas include nuclear engineering, nuclear material measurement physics, custom instrumentation development, mechanical and electrical engineering design, prototype fabrication, training, and radioactive sealed source and Special Nuclear Material (SNM) management. The group is engaged in the full life cycle development of nuclear material measurement instrumentation including simulation-guided design; mechanical/electrical design and fabrication of prototypes; testing of prototypes; deploying systems at civilian nuclear fuel cycle facilities and installations worldwide; and development and delivery of training curricula. Key customers and programs include the Dept. of Energy (DOE), National Nuclear Security Administration/Defense Nuclear Nonproliferation (NNSA/DNN), the U.S. Department of State, the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), the Los Alamos National Laboratory (LANL) plutonium facility, and operators/regulators of nuclear fuel cycle facilities worldwide.
The Group Leader provides leadership and management oversight for approximately 70 professionals and students, three separate radiological facilities, and an annual operating budget of approximately $30 M; provides technical direction to maintain and improve capabilities, safety, work quality, and cost and technical effectiveness; and fosters the building of synergistic teams and be able to effectively identify and deal with personnel issues. The Group management team includes two Deputy Group Leaders and six Team Leaders.

This position requires a Q clearance. and obtaining such clearance requires US Citizenship except in extremely rare circumstances. Dependent upon the position, additional authorization to access classified information may be required, which may or may not be available to dual citizens. Receipt of a Q clearance and additional access authorization ultimately is a decision of the Federal Government and not of Triad.
