R&D / Product Development Engineer
FlexDex Surgical (www.flexdex.com), an innovative medical device company located in Brighton, MI, is developing and commercializing a suite of articulating endoscopic instruments for minimally invasive surgery. Leveraging fundamental innovations in mechanism design and robotics, these affordable instruments provide enhanced dexterity, intuitive control, and ergonomics which so far, have been seen only in multi-million-dollar robotic surgical systems. FlexDex’s first generation needle driver was launched in the US in 2017 and the upcoming AXIUS Needle Driver launch was recently announced.

To help realize our vision, we are looking to hire an experienced R&D Design Engineer with a strong, background in product development, mechanical systems, and manufacturing. The candidate must have a demonstrated history of being a key member of a professional design team and have key contributions to product design decisions. The candiate must have a strong understanding of processes related to design, prototype, testing, transfer of designs to manufacturing, V&V testing, and project management.
Experience with electrosurgical products is a significant bonus.
Key requirements for the job include:
· Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Biomedical Engineering, or equivalent
· 5+ years of full-time employment as a key member of a product development team preferred
· Strong foundation in engineering fundamentals such as statics, dynamics, and materials.
· Working knowledge of mechanical engineering/design principles in linkages, transmissions, cable drives, cams, pulleys, shafts, fasteners, structures, etc.
· Strong hands-on mechanical skillset and understanding of prototyping and test techniques
· Broad knowledge of injection molding, machining, MIM, and assembly processes
· Sound design insight, technical judgement, and problem-solving skills in mechanical systems
· Project management mindset to organize and prioritize tasks to meet deadlines
· Strong teamwork, initiative, and confidence in decision making
· Highly proficient with SolidWorks, drawing creation, GD&T, and other product development tools
· Self-driven, passionate for technology innovation, motivated to work with a fast-pace team, and strong desire to make an impact.

Work Remotely
- Flexible work schedule, but must be present at FlexDex offices in Brighton, MI. 80% of time due to physical nature of of the products we are developing.
