Your Role and Responsibilities
Join an elite team driving research and development of the industry's most advanced quantum computing hardware and software. IBM has outlined an ambitious roadmap for hardware, software and capabilities all leading to quantum advantage and beyond. We are seeking talented researchers to join a team focused on stretching the reach of our processors to explore beyond-classical computation by developing and implementing new capabilities such as error mitigation. The successful candidate will have a strong background in experimental quantum computing with experience in areas such as quantum control, quantum simulation, etc. This position will involve close collaboration between theory, experiment, and software teams.
Job Duties
- Develop tests of quantum applications and algorithms, design new demonstrations for benchmarking quantum devices, and test experiments on large-scale quantum processors.
- Improve experimental performance through development of capabilities like error mitigation and dynamic circuits
- Work effectively with theorists and experimentalists to transform ideas into realizable experiments
- Advance team goals through collaborations, continuous skills growth, and knowledge sharing
- Publish papers on results in scientific journals and present work externally via talks and conferences
- Contribute software code to open source projects and internal projects for reuse
This position can be located in Yorktown Heights, NY or San Jose, CA IBM Quantum Labs.
Required Technical and Professional Expertise
- At least 3 years of experience in aspects of experimental quantum computing/simulation/control.
- Proven record of research and accomplishment
- Programming experience (Python preferred)
Preferred Technical and Professional Expertise
- At least 5 years research experience in quantum computing, error correction, fault-tolerance, quantum algorithms, or quantum information
- Proven record of research and accomplishment.

The compensation range for this position is based on a full-time schedule. The salary will vary depending on your job-related skills, experience and location. Pay increment and frequency of pay will be in accordance with employment classification and applicable laws. For part time roles, your compensation will be adjusted to reflect your hours.
