About the job
The Quantometer Operator is responsible for analyzing and reporting chemical analysis of Cast House and Potroom pure and alloy aluminum samples in a timely and accurate manner to ensure that they meet applicable industry and customer specifications. Job requires working on a 12-hour rotating shift basis as needed to provide 24/7 Quantometer Lab coverage.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Operator must be able to work in a fast-paced environment and handle many concurrent analysis/activities while maintaining analytical accuracy and timeliness.
- Perform periodic calibration/standardization and cleaning of equipment to ensure accurate analysis.
- Prepare samples for analysis using lathes, milling machine, and band saws.
- Provide problem-solving information to Cast House furnace operators and shift supervisors in order to prevent off-grade production.
- Direct metal flow throughout the Cast House based on production needs.
- Participate in quality audits
- As the need arises, perform furnace alloy addition calculations for Cast House Operating personnel.
- Perform routine Hydrogen analysis on metal samples.
- Must be willing to help fill for vacation and sick leave absences.
- Maintain all associated logs and data for tracking of calibrations, analysis and maintenance activities to support the quality system and lab requirements.
- Schedule, maintain and ensure calibration of lab equipment working with Alcoa Technical Center personnel and/or third parties.
- Work with Alcoa Technical Center and technical resources to maintain efficient performance of Quantometer Lab.

This position requires a high school diploma or a GED from an accredited institution and two years of experience in a manufacturing environment. A two-year Associates degree in a technical field is preferred. Laboratory and or Casthouse experience is helpful.
