Position Overview
Reporting to the Quality Manager, the Quality Lab Analyst position is responsible for maintaining the lab environment and equipment, performing chemical and metallurgical testing and providing analytical feedback, maintaining the gauge calibration system, performing gauge repair, maintaining the safety sheet database, and supporting non-destructive testing (NDT) efforts throughout all facilities.
In this role you will you be responsible for:
  • Performing laboratory tests in order to produce reliable and precise data.
  • Carrying out routine tasks accurately and follow strict methodologies when performing various chemical analyses.
  • Ensuring that strict safety procedures and checks are performed and maintained.
  • Assisting in maintenance of the SDS database for Minneapolis
  • Preparing, analyzing, and logging metallographic specimens.
  • Ensure the laboratory is well-stocked and resourced.
  • Prepare chemical reagents.
  • Conduct chemical laboratory tests to assist in making qualitative and quantitative analyses for the purpose of continual maintenance, including that of experiment and theoretical activities, which may provide practical or improved application.
  • Analyze test results, either through defined control parameters or analytical observations, and make recommendations to Engineers and Management.
  • Perform inside calibration of micrometers, calipers, dial indicators, custom length gauges, ring gauges, plug gauges, etc.
  • Arrange for outside calibration of equipment on-site, such as hardness testers, surface plates, tensile testers, weight scales, etc.
  • Assures all gauging used is calibrated and in good working order.
  • Perform minor repair on gauges and/or send out for repair when required.
  • Coordinates with tool room to construct special gauging as-required.
  • Keeps abreast of latest technologies in gauging and lab equipment.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned to support the achievement of department and company objectives.
  • Assists in environmental compliance and hazardous waste programs, including audits.
  • Performs spectrographic examination of incoming steel for conformity.
  • Supports NDT equipment maintenance, improvement, and training efforts throughout the Minneapolis facility.
You will excel in this role if:
  • You are proficient in gauge use as well as in various mechanical and physical test methods.
  • You’re able to read blueprints and have GD&T knowledge.
  • You possess excellent communication skills – both written and verbal.
  • You possess the ability to manage time efficiently and address multiple tasks.
  • Your computer skills are excellent and you are proficient in Microsoft Office Suite.
  • You have a strong knowledge of calibration, inspection methods, blue print reading, statistics, quality charting, and process capability.
  • You have a strong chemistry background with laboratory testing experience.
  • You possess basic mechanical repair abilities.
  • You are a team player.
To qualify, you will bring:
  • Bachelor’s degree in a science discipline. Chemistry background is preferred.
  • 2+ years of working in a lab environment.
  • Experience working in a manufacturing environment.
