Purchasing Manager

Occupational Summary:

The Purchasing Manager will be responsible for managing all aspects of the supply chain, the buying team and vendors. This role will serve as the key link between suppliers, forecasting, project managers, warehouse and sales team. The Purchasing Manager will manage multiple suppliers and will need to evaluate and ensure all purchasing requirements are being met to serve customers in a timely manner.


Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Oversee Purchasing staff including scheduling, task assignment, performance and attendance management, conflict resolution, training, professional development and succession planning

  • Oversight in all aspects in the following: Expense Stock Room, Raw Material Inventory, Stockroom Clerks, Sourcing

  • Provide necessary input into annual AOP process

  • Perform cost-benefit analyses as needed

  • Research and evaluate suppliers that meet NHBB requirements

  • Review requisitions to ensure that the request is valid and meets requirements

  • Review reports against open/closed POs and reconcile for accuracy

  • Check accuracy of requests against specifications

  • Identify qualified suppliers and negotiate best price for products/services

  • Request bids from new suppliers as needed.

  • Maintain accurate tracking systems, ensuring that information is current.

  • Provide Production staff with status reports of material usage as requested

  • Responsible for understanding and operating consistent with company's Quality Policy and Quality Objectives

  • Responsible for maintaining purchasing records per the company's procedures and requirements

  • Assure the smooth flow of materials into and through the facility with close interaction with suppliers, Manufacturing, and Quality Assurance

  • Interact with Quality Assurance and Production to insure that requirements and quality on all materials are maintained

  • Identify and Procure items under his/her responsibility for the production needs based on established inventory goals

  • Ensure availability of components and materials in order to support production process

  • Maintain good communication with suppliers and production supervisors to assure timely delivery of materials

  • Conduct problem solving and performance improvement with suppliers as needed to resolve delivery and/or quality issues

  • Facilitate communication of supplier issues with the Materials Manager as appropriate

  • Review schedules and forecasts and Issue Purchase Order/Requisitions per the SOPs

  • Enter, expedite and track Purchase Orders with suppliers to insure deliveries, Blanket Orders, Vendor Managed Inventory, etc. are in alignment with production requirements

  • Assist in eliminating non-value added steps throughout the value system

  • Advise appropriate personnel of schedule or material availability changes

  • Source and quote inventory items, inventory services, supplies and tooling in accordance with applicable procedures

  • Perform other duties and projects as assigned

  • Help facilitate management's needs and priorities

Education/Experience Required:

  • 4 year degree in Business, Logistics, Supply Chain Management or closely related field

  • APICS certification a plus

  • Minimum of 5 years of purchasing leadership experience, preferably in a manufacturing environment


Other Requirements:

  • Possess a sense of urgency
  • Able to be flexible and respond to the changing needs of the organization

Note: Physical job requirements may include:

  • Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
  • Able to travel as needed.
  • Must be able to access and navigate each department at the organizations' facilities.
