Public Health Nurse (Continuous Recruitment) Job at Lorain County Public Health
FUNCTION
Lorain County Public Health is seeking Registered Nurse (RN) applicants to function as a public health nurse. The RN will function within the scope of nursing under the direction of the Nursing Supervisor.
JOB DUTIES
- Administer vaccines according to current recommended vaccine guidelines and schedules. Provide vaccine education and counseling to clients, caregivers, and community partners.
- Provide case management and care coordination for families of children with medical needs.
- Collaborate with families and medical providers to develop individualized plans of care.
- Administer health services in a school base setting. Provide direct clinical care, chronic disease management, vision and hearing screening and referral, and immunization surveillance and reporting.
- Collaborate with community partners and agencies to assess public health needs within the community. Participate in the development of equitable policies and plans to address these needs.
- Perform in-home nurse visits when needed to address the health, wellness, safety, social and environmental needs of clients and children.
- Perform other duties as assigned
- Reports upon directive in an emergency
MAJOR WORK CHARACTERISTICS
Knowledge of: Public health and social determinants of health; community organizations as they relate to patients and community; communicable diseases and state and local laws concerning them; appropriate software including: Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Adobe Acrobat, Email, and electronic health records.
Ability to: Apply nursing techniques & methods in clinics and clients’ homes; effectively present facts and recommendations both orally and in writing. Work with diverse populations and partner agencies to improve health outcomes for all. Spanish speaking and translation skills are preferred but not required.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
Bachelor’s degree in Nursing with three (3) years of nursing experience preferred.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
Must be a licensed registered nurse pursuant to Section 4723.13 of the Revised Code. Must be able to travel with reliable transportation. A valid Ohio driver's license with ongoing proof of auto insurance. Current CPR certification. Able to lift up to 40 pounds. Proof of up-to-date vaccinations for healthcare providers or in process of completion.
WORK SCHEDULE
This is a full-time (40 hours/5 days per week) position with usual hours M-F 8:00 am – 4:30 pm with occasional evenings and weekends.
Physical Requirements and Unusual Working Conditions: Must be able to wear PPE, including a face mask and face shield, when required. Be able to lift objects of weight up to forty (40) pounds. May encounter unsanitary working conditions; requires travel.
COMPENSATION: Benefits include medical, dental, vision, and life insurance. Ohio Public Employee’s Retirement System (PERS). Paid vacation, personal day, holidays, and sick leave. Tuition reimbursement is available.
SALARY: $28.88 - $36.85/hr.
