Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner

Hourly Wage: $73.53/Regular/Full-Time
Location: Toppenish
Responsible for overseeing the psychological service needs of individuals, families, groups and the community at large. The position also entails supervising medication assessments, evaluations, and management services for those qualified patients being referred. The incumbent will provide services to children, adolescents, and adults. Employee must adhere to evidence-based practice guidelines, professional standards, and all legal requirements. Nurse practitioners encourage patients to become active participants in their own well-being. The means through which they achieve this is by providing education and counseling to help patients understand how to maintain their own good health, or mitigate symptoms.
Examples of Work Performed:
- Conduct health assessments including recording complete medical and psychosocial history and provide diagnoses to determine if medications are recommended part of the treatment plan for given patient.
- Develop a treatment plan that may include medication and other therapies.
- Collaborate with other healthcare providers, including physicians and nurses as needed, to share information conducive to patients comprehensive treatment plan.
- Order and interpret laboratory test results on patient's behalf.
- Follow up on patients to determine the effectiveness of recommended treatments.
- Provide specific information on any medications being prescribed to both the patient and guardians (if applicable). Such information to include correct usage of drug, possible adverse reactions, and what to do if they occur, activities and other drugs to avoid.
- Participate in supervision, multi-disciplinary team staffing, training, and consultations as required.
- Provide patient education to promote habits that will prevent diseases and maintain good health.
- Maintain all relevant records to meet Level of Care Standards and agency policies.
- Participate in individual and group therapy as part of patient treatment plan.
- May be assigned new projects and tasks not included on the description, or to assist other Behavioral Health staff as requested by Supervisor ensuring the efficient and effective functioning of the work unit.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- Knowledge of principles, practices and professional standards of providing medication management services to Tribal communities.
- Knowledge of Yakama Nation personnel policies and procedures.
- Knowledge of Yakama Nation Tribal governmental organization.
- Knowledge and proficiency in computer use, specifically Microsoft Office products including Word, Excel, Power Point, and Access, and database relevant to the Behavioral Health program.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with other department staff, supervisors/managers, elected officials, and the public.
- Ability to communicate effectively, orally, and in writing, with all levels of personnel including patients, employees, supervisors, elected officials.
- Ability to meet the general public and address problems, issues, and complaints tactfully, courteously and effectively.
Minimum Requirements:
- Must be a graduate of a school of professional nursing, and have a minimum of one year of clinical experience (private practice accepted) in the area of medication management for mental health conditions. Must be current, full, active and unrestricted registration as a graduate professional nurse in Washington State, and be Licensed or otherwise recognized as a nurse practitioner in the State of Washington with licensure for prescriptive authority.
- Required to pass pre-employment drug test.
- Must possess a valid Washington State Driver's License with the ability to obtain a Yakama Nation Driving permit.
- No drug and alcohol offenses for the past two years.
- Must obtain First Aid/CPR card within six months of hire.
