About this role
The Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner Hampstead Hospital works under the supervision of the Staff Psychiatrist or the Chief Medical Officer and in accordance with established facility policy and procedure as well as within the State guidelines. Maintains any documentation required by state or facility guidelines to demonstrate compliance with supervision requirements. Provides psychiatric consultation, diagnostic and treatment services to the identified patient population, including medication management and crisis intervention services.
What you bring to the table
Education
- Graduation from an accredited nursing school.
Experience
- Experience in treating psychiatric disorders in acute care and/or institutional setting preferred.
- Two years of experience as a Nurse Practitioner. Psychiatric experience preferred and/or experience in a residential healthcare setting.
Licenses/Certifications
- Certification as a Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner in the state of practice as recognized by the American Nurses Credential Center Adult PMHNP
- CPR certification (within 3 months)
What you will do
KEY JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Provides comprehensive assessment, plan development, implementation of plan of care and evaluation of effectiveness of interventions with revisions as necessary.
- Initiate, monitors, alters medications and treatments according to approved protocols. Demonstrates thorough understanding of all requirements and practice standards relating to the prescription, administration of medications including compliance with organization policy and procedures, documentation, requirements, medication education.
- Monitors medication and initiates appropriate therapies for certain conditions and changes medications according to variations in a patient’s response within established protocols.
- Observes and differentiates between signs and symptoms associated with normal human physiology and those indicative of pathological changes.
- Documents all relevant patient care issues in patients’ progress notes and treatment plan all relevant patient care issues.
- Includes the use of seclusion and restraint and alternative interventions, documentation requirements, disaster and fire procedures, infection control, risk management.
- Is sensitive to cultural diversity issues, treats patients as an individual, and considers the culture of the patients when providing care and treatment.
- Provides individualized care and treatment that is consistent with/sensitive to the age and life span developmental needs of each patient.
- Participates in psychiatric on-call schedule if on-call services are required
- Ensures progress note and treatment plan documentation is in specified format, problem oriented, corresponds to the therapeutic order and is legible
- Ensures all documentation is dated, timed, legible, problem oriented and signed
- Adheres to the established formulary for therapeutic regimens before using non-formulary procedures
- Supports standards of psychiatric care through adherence to existing policies and procedures for admission to the infirmary and transfer to emergency room utilization review process for specialty consultant referrals
- Assumes responsibility and accountability for his/her individual judgments and actions.
- Provides input into facility mandatory committees such as Pharmacy and Therapeutics, Quality Improvement, Patient Care Management, Medical Audit Committee, State Psychiatric Meetings/Conference calls, Mental Health Treatment Team, as requested by Staff Psychiatrist or designee
