Job Description
DUTIES :
- Maintains a classroom environment that is safe, orderly, and conducive to effective learning and appropriate to the maturity and interest of all students.
- Meets and instructs assigned classes in the locations and at the times designated.
- Prepares and maintains lesson plans for classes assigned and shows evidence of preparation in alignment with the expectations outlined in the observation handbook upon request of supervisor.
- Enables all students to succeed in school and graduate with the skills, knowledge and attitudes to become successful employees and responsible citizens.
- Assists in upholding and enforcing school rules, administrative procedures and board polices.
- Fulfills the terms of the written contract unless released from the contract by the school board.
- Works with students to create a classroom environment that is conducive to teaching and learning.
- Employs a variety of instructional techniques and instructional media, consistent with the physical limitations of the location provided and the needs and capabilities of all individuals or student groups involved.
- Adheres to the rules, regulations, and policies prescribed by the school board, and its administrative procedures.
- Completes reports as required.
- Maintains data as needed and /or required and interprets such data as necessary as a tool to foster learning.
- Eligible for and hold, prior to appointment, the Maryland State Department of Education Certification for Biology 7-12 or related endorsement in accordance with COMAR 13A.12.02.06.
- Bachelor's degree in applicable field of education from an accredited college or university preferred.
- Understanding of the teaching/learning process.
- Ability to provide instruction that reflects multiple perspectives and multicultural education. Ability to infuse technology into curriculum.
- Ability to work effectively with administrators, colleagues, central office and school-based staff, students, parents and community.
- Excellent oral and written communication and human relations skills.
- Willingness to complete DCPS provided professional development sessions during the summer of 2023 and continue to participate until the candidate completes training in all 4 PLTW BioMed courses which may necessitate participation in summer training beyond 2023. Please note, participation in in-person training sessions is preferred.
