Trinity County Resource Conservation District is accepting applications for the Project Coordinator (Forestry) position. The Project Coordinator will lead the Forestry Crew and manage forestry contracts, be under the supervision of the Program Manager and the District Manager, and may perform a variety of natural resources-related tasks. This position requires a person who can work effectively in a collaborative environment, is self-directed, is comfortable working independently, and can motivate themselves and a crew to maintain a high level of work quality, efficiency, and professionalism. The Project Coordinator is a full-time, permanent, fully benefited position. The candidate list generated from this announcement will be used to fill future vacancies in this job classification.
Required Qualifications:
- Project Coordinator: Three years or more of combined education and professional experience in natural resources, developing, coordinating, and implementing resource-related projects, including managing project budgets and personnel.
- Proficient with Microsoft Office, ESRI ArcGIS, and GPS software and hardware, with the ability to effectively manage data.
- Self-directed, with supervisory experience and the ability to prioritize and coordinate workload independently and as part of a team.
- Ability to develop and maintain partnerships with landowners and other agencies.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills, and organizational skills. Ability to perform physical labor outdoors in rugged terrain and in inclement weather.
- Valid California driver’s license with a clean driving record.
Desired Qualifications:
Preference will be given to candidates with the following skills and experience:
- Knowledge of local, state, and federal environmental policies and regulations pertaining to resource management programs, including NEPA and CEQA processes.
- A four-year college degree in a natural resource-related field, such as forestry, ecology, biology, botany, environmental sciences or a related field.
- Knowledge of Landowner assistance programs such as Cal-Fire CFIP and NRCS EQIP programs.
- Possession of professional licenses and/or training such as RPF, Arborist, Engineer, USFS NEPA Interdisciplinary Team Leader, Archaeologist, or other professionally recognized license or training.
- Knowledge of forestry practices for forest health, fuels reduction, prescribed fire for vegetation management, and watershed restoration.
- Experience managing contracts and operations, related to forestry projects i.e. mastication or fuels crews.
- Knowledge of threatened and endangered species, carbon sequestration, rare and sensitive plant surveys, and wetlands delineation.
- Knowledge of native plant identification.
Duties:
The Project Coordinator will perform a wide variety of natural resources-related work, including but not limited to:
- Assist in proposal development for future projects (Grant/Agreement writing).
- Design and implementation of forestry and fuels reduction projects.
- Complete environmental analysis for forestry and fuels reduction projects.
- Assist with the preparation of and oversight of project contracts.
- Participate in personnel performance evaluations of subordinate staff.
- Oversee heavy equipment operation.
- Complete on-site inspections to evaluate progress and project compliance with plans, specifications, and overall objectives.
- Maintain a daily log of activities including instructions and change orders.
- Coordinate with partners to direct Forestry Crew and Contractor activities.
- Train and directly supervise Forestry Technicians in tasks including project layout and cruising.
- Ensure equipment logs are maintained and implementation materials are acquired.
- Create project maps and prescriptions
- Conduct project monitoring to evaluate results and trends, and recommend improvements to project designs.
- Develop detailed reports and presentations for projects.
- Lead and participate in forestry and fuels implementation including prescribed fire operations.
- Attend required meetings.
- Other duties as assigned.
