WHAT WE CAN ACHIEVE TOGETHER
The Program Analyst and Coordinator works collaboratively with economists and social scientists in TNC’s Global Science Business Unit to undertake economic and governance analyses for projects and strategies. They build relationships with frontline conservation teams to understand their economic and policy needs, provide research support based on literature reviews and data analyses, and coordinate activities and meetings, as required. This position will support economic and policy analyses and data management related to the costs and benefits of biodiversity conservation, sustainable use of natural resources, and climate change mitigation and adaptation. Their work will help inform nature-based investments with special attention paid to distributional concerns. The ideal candidate will have a background in applied economics and experience working with both socio-economic (quantitative and qualitative) and spatial data. The position reports to the Lead Economist in the Global Science Business Unit. The location for this role is flexible where TNC is already an established entity with a preference for applicants that can work most of their workday within the U.S. Eastern Time Zone. Some travel may be required.

We’re looking for someone who can provide program coordination and technical support on economic and governance issues related to conservation. You would be part of a team of scientists working to improve conservation throughout the world!
Responsibilities and Scope:
Research and analyses. You will undertake and support cost benefit analyses of environmental actions, using market and non-market valuation techniques, focusing on low- and middle-income countries. You will review relevant scientific and policy literature to inform environmental governance and economics discussions, proposals, and publications. You will analyse secondary and primary qualitative as well as quantitative data to identify trends and produce high quality visualizations. As required, you will generate data sets and communicate results to team members. Where primary data is needed, you will develop survey-based instruments and may participate in field work. You may support team members in writing white papers, scientific publications, and other communications. You will have experience working in developing and/or middle-income countries.
Coordination and management. You will administer and coordinate collaborations for the Conservation Economics and Governance team within the Global Science Business Unit. You will develop strong relationships across internal and external collaborators to help launch new or support ongoing work, successfully managing work streams to ensure on-time and high-quality deliverables. You may manage small grants, contracts, or requests for proposals.
WHAT YOU'LL BRING
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Master’s Degree in Environmental Economics and 1-2 years of related experience
- Experience valuing the costs and benefits of ecosystem services and estimating the net returns to different environmental investments
- Experience coordinating projects and working and communicating with people from a wide range of disciplines and backgrounds
- Experience managing and working with primary/secondary micro-economic data and related software, including R, Stata, or Python
- Experience with coding qualitative primary data sets using software such as NVivo or Atlas.ti
- Experience with producing maps and analyzing spatial data using GIS or other software
- Experience synthesizing, interpreting, and communicating scientific information, including the use of data visualization
- Experience working in low and/or middle-income countries
DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Demonstrated excellence in data management and analysis using multiple software platforms
- Experience conducting household or community-related surveys
- Ability to work independently and/or with minimal supervision
- Demonstrated project management capabilities
- Experience with the non-profit sector
- Excellent verbal, presentation and written communication skills
- Multilingual skills and multicultural or cross-cultural experience appreciated
- Excellent team player with experience working in multidisciplinary groups, using interpersonal skills, listening, diplomacy and tact to build strong relationships with corporations, partners, donors, volunteers, and all levels of staff
