The Field Museum is a not-for-profit organization located on the Museum Campus of Chicago. Since the 1893 World's Columbian Exposition, we have conducted research across all seven continents and accumulated a collection of over 40 million specimens and artifacts.
The Field Museum is searching for a Professional Development Educator to join our team!
The Professional Development Educator’s primary role is to develop and implement professional development for pre-K-12 educators to learn through authentic investigations with museum collections and oversee the suite of teacher professional development opportunities offered by the Field, including but not limited to educator in-services, the Field Ambassadors educator community, the Field Museum Learning Connection virtual partnership, and pre-service teacher preparation. These program components take place onsite at the Field Museum, in person at schools throughout the Chicago metropolitan area, and in virtual spaces.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- The Professional Development Educator will oversee, from ideation to evaluation, the suite of virtual and in-person professional development offerings from the Field Museum. This includes but is not limited to drop-in opportunities and sustained Professional Learning Communities such as Educator In-services, Field Ambassadors, Field Museum Learning Connections, and Pre-service teacher education. This individual will maintain regular correspondence with teachers and school communities and develop and curate K-12 educational resources to support teachers within the context of museum professional development and will cultivate strong relationships with teachers, schools, and district administrators
- The Professional Development Educator will aid with the implementation of K-12 student learning experiences within the context of school partnerships, including tailored field trips to the museum and engagement with museum collections and research within the classroom as needed. They will foster ongoing internal collaborations across departments and external collaborations with schools and community partners in support of professional development. This individual will engage in professional learning to stay abreast of current research and the ever-changing education landscape and contribute to the Field Museum and Learning Center’s broader understanding of K-12 education trends and audience needs
- The Professional Development Educator will maintain program records, including participation data and professional learning documentation for the Illinois State Board of Education. This individual will also support the creation and implementation of evaluation plans and contribute to program reporting efforts, including grant reports and proposals as needed
- Assist with general program needs
Qualifications:
- The Professional Development Educator must possess knowledge of formal and informal learning theory and best practices in student and adult learning. They must have a thorough understanding and demonstrated ability of learning standards (NGSS, C3 Framework, Common Core). The candidate should have experience developing and implementing successful adult professional learning experiences both in-person and remotely
- The Professional Development Educator should identify as self-motivated and solutions-oriented–remaining flexible when navigating day-to-day challenges and proactive when identifying solutions.They should enjoy working on a team to develop program ideas both remotely and in person collaboratively. Preference will be given to candidates with 3-5 years of experience successfully developing and implementing curriculum for K-12th grade students and 1-3 years successfully developing and implementing adult learning experiences
- The ideal candidate must be available to work in person, approximately 2 evenings and 2 weekends a month and must have access to a car, and be willing to travel to schools across Chicago. They should have a strong commitment to Diversity, Equity, Accessibility, and Inclusion as well as Social Justice standards and principles and identify as well-organized, detail-oriented, independently motivated, and able to work in a fast-paced environment
