Job Description:
Leads an 8 to 12 hour shift of hourly team members providing support in the areas of safety, quality, productivity, cost, and engagement through Continuous Improvement cadences and tools in a culture of continuous improvement. Responsible for multiple highspeed refrigerated dough production and packaging lines. Foster and promote continuous improvement and a positive work environment.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES **:

  • Maintain a high standard for safety through leading pre-shift safety talks and frequent floor presence to ensure that all shift employee have the tools to work safely and adhere to safety policies and procedures.
  • Ensure product quality by understanding and communicating customer needs to employees and managing expectations for quality. Understands top quality drivers and top customer complaints from area.
  • Publish daily weekly crew schedules for line staffing. Maintain skills matrix.
  • Lead process improvement teams.
  • Utilize available data to continuously improve productivity, uptime and reliability.
  • Assist employees and technicians in completing PDCA's for root cause investigation and the permanent resolution of operational issues.
  • Communicate effectively with peers, subordinates, supervisors and management.
  • Communicate company policies to hourly team members and train them in standard work practices and procedures for safety, quality, productivity, and efficiency.
  • Collaborate with maintenance through the shift handoffs and maintenance weekly operation review (MWOR) regarding priority, action items, and follow-ups.
  • Interpret specifications and job orders to employees and assign duties based upon work priority, quantity of equipment, and skill of personnel.
  • Recommend measures to improve safety, quality of product, production methods, and equipment performance. Use of CI tools and SRC is recommended approach to determine corrective/preventative actions to eliminate problems.
  • Train staff in the areas of safety quality, productivity, cost, and equipment.
  • In conjunction with HR and management, provide performance management (this includes appraisal/performance evaluation, coaching and counseling, conflict resolution, corrective action and training programs for assigned team members.
  • Maintain Kronos (time keeping) for all hourly employees, and production records and accurately complete all reports as required by the Company
  • Maintain area in accordance with SQF standards and enforce product safety and sanitation regulations.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES: This job requires supervision of 35-65 employees.
QUALIFICATIONS: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. A desired qualification, but not required:

  • Mechanical aptitude is a plus for this position to assist the maintenance/production team in diagnosing and helping to perform repairs with additional knowledge/training. Previous SAP experience preferred.

**EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE: Bachelor's degree preferred or equivalent combination of education and experience. Desire to learn and willingness to accept responsibility. Minimum of 3-5 years' experience in manufacturing environment preferably food manufacturing. Previous supervisory experience desired.
LANGUAGE SKILLS: **Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence and memos. Ability to write simple correspondence. Ability to effectively communicate with employees. Bi-lingual in English and Spanish a plus
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS: Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide numbers, including decimals and fractions. Simple use of formulas, charts, tables, drawings, specifications, schedules, wiring diagrams, computer scanning devices, adjustable measuring instruments. Check reports, forms, records and comparable data, where interpretation requires basic skills knowledge.
REASONING ABILITY: Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out simple one- or two-step instructions. Ability to deal with standardized situations with only occasional or no variables.
