The basic purpose and function of the Scheduler is to develop production requirements based on order demand and inventories, negotiating production plans that optimize manufacturing output and efficiencies, while meeting or exceeding all Customer Service levels. Coordinates production line changes based on production performance and product mix. Responsible for responding to all internal questions relating to ship dates and production needs.

Major Duties and Responsibilities

• Responsible for planning fiber optic cable, from raw materials to shipment of product. Focus on front end process work centers for fiber optimization and reduction of short fiber inventory.

• Coordination of production line changes and line balancing based on production performance and product mix deviations.
• Responsible for work order generation, order grouping, and release to manufacturing floor.
• Responsible for all internal questions relating to ship dates, production needs, and delays to monthly targets.
• Responsible for allocation of excess inventories and surplus parts created during production.
• Chair of daily communication dispatch meeting
• Support backup for the Production Control Manager.
• Subject matter expert in production modules of current MRP operating software.

Limited systems maintenance to maintain data integrity.

Job Qualifications

• Bachelor degree Operations Management, or equivalent work experience in an operations manufacturing environment.
• Two years experience in capacity planning, production operations, production forecasting, or inventory management.
• Computer skills: Microsoft Office, database applications, shop/inventory control systems (SAP, MRP) or other product tracking systems.
• Must have excellent organizational, oral and written communication skills.
• Must be detailed oriented.
• Good interpersonal skills with the ability to adapt to various job situations and tasks.
• Must be highly motivated with the ability to work well with limited supervision.

Decision Making Requirements

The Cable Production Scheduler must make decisions, which affect the manufacturing processes, product flow and ship dates of cable products.

• Must review product mix, inventory, forecast, manufacturing /process constraints to formulate production requirements and ship dates.
• Planning of product through out the plant in the most efficient way in order to meet or exceed customer requirements. Expediting is required.
• Determining the best flow through the plant that may require grouping similar orders to reduce setup time and improve output.
• Works with Production Scheduling Manager, Operations Manager, Lead Person & Supervisors, Engineering, and Customer Service, to solve problems which influence the ship dates of completed product.
• Communicates with Customer Care to make decisions on the change of product or ship dates.

Direction Given and/or Received

• The Planner receives direction from the Production Control Manager on priority orders.
• Works closely with Lead Operators, Supervisors (all areas) and members of the departments, to get product produced and shipped to the customer on time.
