Product Development Engineer II

Summary

We are seeking a high-performing individual to design and develop a variety of products that meet the high standards of both Harbor and our customers. The desired candidate will demonstrate a basic knowledge of product design with a high attention to detail. This individual will show the ability to design reliable, high quality products while engineering for manufacturability and to meet the financial objectives of the customer. The ideal candidate is a self-motivated individual who is excited by the opportunity to work in an extremely fast paced, team oriented, innovative environment

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Work with project team to develop new solutions for solving our customers’ most complex needs.

Lead the engineering efforts for products from initial design rendering thru production.

Generate complete solid models and BOM’s for each product based on renderings provided using Solid Works.

Peer review engineering data including your own to analyze for tolerance stack ups, assembly viability, etc.

Develop or assist in the development of complete production BOM’s in ERP system.

Work to identify cost reduction opportunities and /or value engineer both new and existing products.

Work with both internal and external suppliers to develop components for manufacturing and reduce cost.

Work with design, manufacturing, and purchasing throughout a project to evaluate and determine design feasibility in terms of both manufacturing and cost.

Works with UL & Seismic vendors to ensure designs meet certification requirements.

Assist model shop in building prototypes.

Support manufacturing leading up to and thru production.

Assists purchasing and project management in finding and sourcing external

Review and approve first article / PPAP parts.

Prepare and process Engineering Change Orders and Requests.

Analyze issues for root cause and offer potential solutions.

Present ideas to both internal and external customers.

Other duties may be assigned at any time

Education and/or Experience

Bachelor’s degree in engineering or related field and 3-5 years of experience.

OR 2-year Technical degree in a related field and 5+ years of experience.

Other Qualifications

Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.

Effective prioritization and organizational skills.

Strong attention to detail.

Demonstrated ability to work individually and in teams.

Basic Understanding of manufacturing processes and associated costs.

Strong CAD skills. SolidWorks experience is required.

Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.

Business sense and an understanding of how decisions impact the business.
