Description of Work: This position is responsible for assisting caseworkers and management of Food and Nutrition Service Program. This position is responsible for providing support to the caseworkers to allow them to process cases quickly and accurately. The duties include submitting applications and re-certifications received via mail, fax, or dropped off into NCFAST within 3 days as required by policy. This position is responsible for creating and maintaining spreadsheets to assist in the tracking of work to be completed as well as for statistical purposes. This position builds household information and scans records into our document management system, physically files paperwork within the proper section of the records and searches, locates, and replaces records to their proper location. This worker makes copies and provides coverage at the front desk, switchboard, file room and mail room. This position assists the caseworker in obtaining verifications via phone, letter or electronically. This position addresses high level phone calls and makes these changes in NCFAST. This position is also responsible for running state and county reports. This worker also sends out mailings to clients, hearing officers and other state officials. This position composes and types letters to clients and other sources of third party verifications. The worker must ensure that proper grammar, punctuation, and spelling are used. The worker must pay close attention to detail to ensure documents are placed in the correct location in our filing or document management systems. With increasing emphasis on reducing error rates and accountability, the Processing Assistant must always be thorough and accurate.

Knowledge and Skill Requirements: Significant knowledge of office work procedures, methods and practices. Significant knowledge of and ability to use correct grammar, vocabulary, spelling and office terminology to compose and/or proofread correspondence, reports and other materials. Ability to utilize document management /document imaging computer systems. Ability to apply a variety of work-related formulas or mathematical calculations. Ability to record, compile, summarize and perform basic analysis of data. Ability to independently work with people with courtesy and tact in performing public contact duties that is sensitive and confidential in nature. Ability to learn and independently apply laws and departmental rules and regulations covering programs and services. Ability to review and process information to determine conclusions, actions or compliance with applicable laws, rules or regulations. The applicant must also possess excellent computer skills.

Minimum Training and Experience Requirements: Graduation from high school and demonstrated possession of knowledge, skills and abilities gained through at least one year of office assistant/secretarial experience; or an equivalent combination of training and experience.
