Primary Function :

• Provides leadership in the management and administration of the processing departments to ensure most efficient and highest quality production.
• Provides consultation and direction necessary to enable departments to meet their operational objectives.
• Develops and carries out strategic plans and programs in processing to produce the most profitable product.

Major Responsibilities :

• Supervises and directs the programs and activities of department superintendents and supervisors.
• Develops, coordinates and follows through on strategic operational plans.
• Works with Division Manager in assessing and action planning organization design in maintaining the most efficient and effective organization arrangement.
• Selects and terminates department superintendents, supervisors and other immediate subordinates.
• Reviews on a daily basis reports on yield, grade, and other cost reports to ensure awareness of any deviation from the norm and to spot trends and make necessary adjustments.
• Implements corrective actions for substandard performance in each department.
• Provides Division Manager with reports and information as necessary or required that will enable him to review critically the processing operations of Sanderson Farms and to provide constructive advice and guidance as to possibilities for improvement.
• Formulates and overseas development of short and long range strategic plans for processing.
• Clarifies and works toward explicit understanding of Sanderson Farms’ policies and procedures.
• Reviews and evaluates weekly reports such as production cost reports in order to make any necessary adjustments.
• Reviews and evaluates monthly reports such as labor variable and fixed cost, cost and equipment, plant cost, agrimetrics, and comparative plant reports.
• Establishes and maintains an effective employee relations climate, as well as safety consciousness.
• Maintains high level awareness of trends in poultry industry and communicates ideas to appropriate staff as well as the Division Manager.
• Actively pursues acquisition of information and/or skills related to the management of processing department and related services.
• Fills in for Division Manager when absent.
• Represents Sanderson Farms in industry groups, governmental bodies as well as community groups.
• Maintains current awareness of governmental regulations as well as possible new legislation affecting the poultry industry.

Key Working Relationships :

• Reports to the Division Manager who provides general supervision and policy guidance concerning priorities.
• Keep Division Manager informed with timely and sufficient information on new developments.
• Establishes and maintains close working relationships with department managers and staff.
• Establishes and maintains close working relationships with Sanderson Farms processing and production division managers, General Office personnel as well as other individuals and group internally and externally as required to contribute to division and corporate objectives.
• Maintains effective working relationships with vendors and government agencies.

Position Requirements :

Academic: Bachelors Degree in Poultry Science, Business Administration, or related area or equivalent experience.

Experience: Three years management experience in poultry processing or equivalent experience.

Personal: Identifies with the values, philosophy and mission of Sanderson Farms, Inc.

Demonstrates ability to understand and manage all aspects of poultry processing plant.

Ability to communicate and relate to people and groups effectively.

Skilled in the development of strategic short and long range plans.

Ability to analyze and evaluate all aspects of plant operations to maximize efficiencies of operations, margin dollars and profits.
