RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Monitors and moves and sets controls to control process variables, such as flows, temperatures, and pressures to operate heaters, furnaces, compressors, exchangers, towers, etc.; regulate pumps and compressors; take instrument readings; product sampling; make equipment adjustments to optimize performance; daily visual rounds and inspections of processing unit, supporting equipment, tanks, etc.; prep equipment for scheduled maintenance; instrument and equipment troubleshooting; monitor all product movements in to and out of the processing unit; gauges products transferred to and from tanks; performs valve lineups, switch and tank changes as required to move product in and out of storage tanks; measurement of product and meters; input product and/or other data into system applications as required.
  • Assist technicians with maintenance duties as directed; maintain location appearance; assist drivers and others, perform truck rack, and vessel operations duties as assigned; serves as a team member of the plant Turnaround team responsible for prepping for processing unit shutdown and startup.
  • Responsible for completing and maintaining required documentation and records per regulatory requirements (e.g. OSHA, PSM, etc) and Company safety and operational standards and procedures.
  • Maintain a working knowledge of PSM (Process Safety Management) and company policies/procedures as they relate to the operation/maintenance of the assigned asset, including System Integrity Plan (SIP) and OQ requirements and implement them into location work practices.
  • Executes operations safely and follows all safety requirements.
  • Participates on the facility emergency response team, and attends and actively participates in required safety training meetings.
  • Responsible for other projects and/or assignments as assigned by the Supervisor.
JOB REQUIREMENTS

Valid state driver's license to drive a company vehicle.

Minimum of 2 years experience in the refinery processing industry, preferably refinery or chemical process operator experience, or equivalent experience from another field/industry. High school diploma or GED required. Either a college degree or a diploma from an accredited vocational/technical school is preferred. Basic mathematical ability and understanding is required to successfully perform monitoring and control of process variables, tank measurements, read gauges, set up product transfers into and out of tanks. This includes the ability to add, subtract, multiply, divide, convert fractions to decimals and vice versa, etc. Knowledge of processing units is strongly preferred. Candidate must be able to perform some work at heights and around water at marine facility locations.

Successful candidate must be safety oriented; a team player attitude; communication skills necessary to effectively interact with supervisor, other members of the workgroup, and other company representatives or customers; and computer skills (Microsoft).

This position is subject to the port security regulations set forth by the Transportation Security Administration and United States Coast Guard. Physical demands include: constantly (2/3 or more of time) hearing, seeing (acuity, near, far, and depth); frequently (from 1/3 to 2/3 of time) talking; and occasionally (up to 1/3 of time) sitting, standing, walking, lifting (up to 50 lbs), carrying, pushing, pulling (up to 50 lbs), climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, reaching, handling, fingering, feeling, and wearing personal protective equipment.

Environmental conditions include: frequently working outside and inside; occasional exposure to extreme heat and/or cold, noise, vibration, and petrochemicals.

Must work rotating shifts year round, including weekends and holidays. Availability to work on both a scheduled and overtime/call-out basis.

This position will be filled at a level commensurate with candidate experience and qualifications.

Additional requirements: Regular attendance; the ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing in English with co- workers, supervisors, internal and external customers; the ability to work in stressful conditions; the ability to adapt and respond in changing circumstances; the ability to use a personal computer with the Windows(R) operating system to complete time sheets, send and receive email, and access information posted on the Company's intranet; availability as needed to work on both a scheduled and call-out basis; and the ability to work at the assigned job site.
