Northrop Grumman Defense Systems is seeking a Principal Contract Administrator (level 3) to join its team of qualified and diverse individuals supporting its Defense Sector Contracts Operations. This is a unique opportunity to build experience, mentoring relationships and career growth by contributing to the Contracts role from the Sector level. This position will be at the Advanced Weapons Business Unit in Northridge, CA.

The Principal Contract Administrator (level 3) will interface with all levels of senior management and customer counterparts, including program managers, business managers, capture managers, pricing, and proposal teams, to perform the following contract administration responsibilities:

  • Conduct proposal preparation, contract negotiations, contract administration, and customer contact activities to provide for proper contract acquisition and fulfillment in accordance with company policies, legal requirements, and customer specifications.

  • Examine project costs, performance requirements, and delivery schedules to ensure accuracy and completeness.

  • Take an active role in proposal support; managing contract proposal volumes, supporting fact finding and the negotiation process to ensure proposals are fully responsive to prospective customer requirements.

  • Perform risk assessment of proposals and contracts terms and conditions and assist program office in development of risk mitigation strategies

  • Develop and process contract and subcontract sign-off packages, managing the approval process for proposals, contracts and modifications

  • Ensure contract performance in accordance with company policies/procedures and legal requirements, including International Traffic and Arms (ITAR), Risk Work Authorizations (RWA's), ERP, Data Requests, Property Requests, Organizational Conflict of Interest (OCI), Confidential Disclosure Agreements (CDA's)

  • Understand, assess, and evaluate contract provisions, clauses, regulations (including FARs and DFAR clauses), flow-downs and subcontract requirements

  • Maintain official program records, including contractual documents and correspondence with customer

  • Advise management of contractual rights and obligations and as needed, provide interpretation of terms and conditions.

  • Possess excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to use them in informing, presenting, negotiating, and problem solving

Basic Qualifications for a Principal Contract Administrator (level 3 ):

This position emphasizes skills and experience. Will consider one of the following education requirements:

  • High School or equivalent (GED) with at least 10 years of related experience

  • Bachelor’s Degree with a minimum of 6 years related experience in a related field

  • Master’s Degree with a minimum of 4 year related experience in a related field

  • Proficiency in MS Office Suite, including Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook

  • Experience working proposals

  • Experience organizing and administering contracts

  • Experience reviewing, applying, and analyzing rules, policies, and regulations

  • Negotiation experience

  • Be able to occasionally travel to customer locations for negotiations or meetings

Preferred Qualifications for level 3:

  • U.S. government contracting experience

  • International contracting experience

  • Experience and knowledge of FAR, DFARS, AFFARS, AFARS, NMCARS, CAS, and specific experience with DOD contracting

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, presentation skills and computer skills

  • Current/Active Secret Clearance



Salary Range: $86,300 USD - $129,500 USD


Employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
