The Power Markets Advisor provides long term fundamental analytics and price forecasts across multiple ISOs to support the growth of ENGIE’s renewable investment portfolio
The position is located in Houston, TX and reports to Director of Congestion Trading
What you’ll do:
- ISO market experience, preferably in the congestion area
- Forecast power prices, grid conditions, and power plant economics using grid modeling software (Dayzer preferred)
- Analyze market developments including new technologies, new policies, and changes in underlying economic conditions for their impacts on the power grid
- Collaborate with other analysts to maintain the generation queue and hourly volume shapes
- Develop and execute appropriate scenario studies for long-term horizon (5-15 year) and systematically analyzing the results
- Provide fundamental narrative for the prospective renewable investments
- Provide future basis risks and opportunities at ENGIE’s current asset locations, and prospective locations
- Articulate macro-fundamental (supply, demand, renewables) and mirco-fundamental (specific transmission and generation outage impacts, bids, facility limits) drivers
- Identify model gaps by calibrating the model results to market outcomes and determine appropriate solutions
- Recommend and implement process improvements to the enhance fundamental trading
- Assist asset managers with ad-hoc fundamental analyses
- Participate in ISO meetings as appropriate and assess commercial impacts
- Assist in trading functions as appropriate
- Collaborate with risk and compliance teams to review and improve trade controls
- Collaborate with IT personnel to maintain and improve trade tools
What you bring:
- Bachelor or Master’s degree in relevant disciplines (Engineering/Business/Finance) preferred
- Minimum two years of work experience in power markets analysis, power plant economics, price forecasting, trading, or a related discipline
- Minimum five years of work experience in the energy industry
- Experience with one of the major market areas in the US: ERCOT, PJM, NYISO, MISO, SPP, CAISO
- Experience in power markets analysis, power plant economics, price forecasting, trading, or a related discipline
- Understanding of powerflow shift factors, line-outage distribution factors and contingency analysis concepts
- Strong analytical skills
- Clear and effective communicator
- Willingness to engage in dialogue and debate with colleagues
- Proficient in SQL and VB or Python
- Knowledge of statistical techniques

The pay range for this role is: $92,395 - $236,600. The listed salary range represents ENGIE’s good faith estimate for this position and represents the minimum and maximum for new hire salaries across all U.S. locations. An employee’s rate of pay within the range is determined by their work location, and additional factors, including qualifications, relevant experience, and demonstrated performance over time. In addition to those factors, we believe in the importance of pay equity and consider internal equity of our current team members as a part of any final offer. Please keep in mind that the range stated above is the full base salary range for the role. Hiring at the maximum of the range would not be typical in order to allow for future and continued salary growth. This position is eligible for our comprehensive and competitive benefits package and certain positions are eligible for additional forms of compensation such as bonuses and commissions. ENGIE complies with all federal, state, and local minimum wage laws.
