The City of Paris, Texas is looking for Police Officer Applicants who are dedicated and motivated to help their community. Our Police Officers, through close cooperation with Lamar County Prosecutors and Judges help make the community a safer place, and have the ability to respond to non-emergency situations when necessary. A written civil service examination will be held on Tuesday, January 10, 2023 @ 1:30 p.m. at the Paris Police Department, 2910 Clarksville St., Paris, TX. for the position of police officer in the Paris Police Department.
Applications for testing will be accepted now through Thursday, January 5, 2023 at 5:00 p.m. at which time applications close. No applications will be accepted after 5:00 PM on that date. Applications may be obtained at the following web-address:

Study guides are available upon request. All testing applications must be submitted by mail to the Civil Service / H.R. Director at City Hall, 135 1st S.E., Paris, Texas 75460, or by email to the email address provided through this job post. A photo identification, preferred state driver’s license, is required to take the test.
Hiring bonus of $5,000 for certified officers with a minimum of 1 year experience.
Responsibilities:
- Conducting the investigation of alleged crimes and preparing a report.Responding to emergency calls and ensuring the safety of everyone involved.
- Maintaining an accurate record of criminal activity in their jurisdiction.
- Enforcing laws to ensure equal justice for all.
- Using problem-solving skills to handle difficult situations with tact and diplomacy.
- Speaking with and interviewing people involved in a crime, as well as witnesses or victims whether they be adults or children.
- Providing assistance to people who require it, and helping crime victims through the difficult process of reporting a crime.
Requirements for applicants for a position in the Paris Police Department are as follows:
- Be at least 21 years of age and under age 45;
- Applicants 18-20 years of age with 60 hours of college or 2 years of military duty with an honorable discharge are eligible to apply.
- Applicants must be able to read and write the English language.
- Applicants must meet all legal requirements necessary to become eligible for future licensing by the Texas Commission on Law Enforcement Officer Standards and Education;
- Applicants who are veterans of any branch of the United States Armed Services are eligible for preference points provided they receive a passing grade and show proof of an honorable discharge;
- Applicants who take the examination will be given a physical assessment.
The eligibility list created by this examination will be in effect for a period of twelve (12) months from the date of the examination, unless the list is exhausted prior to that time. Preference in entry level hiring will be given to those persons on the eligibility list who are existing or former Law Enforcement Officers from any State in the United States. Please provide verification of certification when application is submitted. In order to receive preference, certification verification must be submitted by the day of the test.
Tutoring for applicants will be provided on a date to be determined prior to the written exam at the Paris Police Department, 2910 Clarksville St., Paris, TX. Study Guides are available at the Police Station and the Civil Service Director’s office.
A physical assessment for those who pass the written exam will begin at immediately after the written exam.
