JOB DESCRIPTION

Job Title: Plumber/Pipefitter

Summary:

The Plumber is a skilled tradesperson in charge of installing, inspecting and repairing pipes and plumbing systems to make sure all fixtures operate correctly. Must have extensive experience installing, maintaining and repairing sanitation units, water and heating systems and associated fixtures and appliances. Will be required to design and inspect plumbing systems, perform diagnostics and ensure they comply with regulatory codes. Must be able to work independently and solve problems as quickly and efficiently as possible. To excel in this position must have strong technical skills and be a master at troubleshooting. In addition, the successful candidate needs to have some water/sanitary utilities/pipelaying background. Pipefitter duties include installing and managing the upkeep of various pipe equipment and systems; reviewing plumbing system blueprints; fixing pipe and plumbing systems; and ensuring pipes meet the proper specifications.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities (including but not limited to):

Plumber Duties:

  • Diagnoses plumbing problems and perform repairs
  • Installs, assembles, maintains, and repairs sanitation units, water and gas supply
  • Reads blueprints and drawings to understand and plans the layout of plumbing, waste disposal and water supply system lines, heating systems and associated pipes and plumbing fixtures
  • Performs installation of plumbing systems
  • Inspects previously installed plumbing systems
  • Locates and repairs water line leaks and removes clogs
  • Tests plumbing and other installed fixtures to ensure proper function
  • Follows state laws and regulations and adheres to local building codes
  • Must be able to read blueprints and drawings to understand or plan the layout of plumbing, waste disposal and water supply systems
  • Cutting, assembling and installing pipes and tubes with attention to existing infrastructure (e.g. electrical wiring)
  • Must be able to inspect and test plumbing systems for safety, functionality and code compliance
  • Keeps detailed reports of work done at the job site

Pipefitter Duties:

  • Installs and manages the upkeep of various pipe equipment and systems
  • Installs and repairs plumbing
  • Inspects and repairs pipes running to related equipment such as radiators and HVAC units
  • Makes recommendations about necessary repairs or changes to plumbing systems
  • Fabricates, installs and repairs piping, fixtures and other fluid sysem structures.
  • After installation, inspects and tests each piping section to ensure there are no leads and piping is secure
  • Reviews project to understand scope and timeline
  • Cuts, bends and welds metals such as carbon and stainless steel to specifications
  • Installs piping or tubing segments securely with welding or other equipment
  • Performs trial runs and tests on pipe systems to ensure there are no leaks or weak points
  • Repairs and reinforces broken, cracked or inadequate systems or pipes
  • Tests pipe systems to ensure safety and functionality
  • Tests functionality of hydraulics and other systems
  • Keeps detailed reports of work done at the job site

Qualifications

  • Good working knowledge of water supply, heating and ventilation systems
  • Good working knowledge of various pipe equipment and systems
  • Must have some water/sanitary utilities/pipe laying background
  • Clean and safe driving record
  • Must have a valid State of Colorado plumbing license
  • 5+ years of professional plumbing and pipefitting experience

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Ability to read technical designs and blueprints
  • Proficient with plumbing tools, materials and equipment
  • Expert knowledge in piping and ventilation systems
  • Strong critical thinking and troubleshooting skills
  • Solid understanding of water distribution and ventilation systems
  • Thorough knowledge of pllumbing system maintenance and repairs
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills
  • Good physical condition and strength with the ability to work in awkward spaces
  • Highly motivated, self starter who is flexible and has a great attitude
  • Highly organized with excellent follow through abilities
  • Excellent time management skills
  • Must have a clean driving record

Work Context

  • Regularly works in outdoor conditions that include inclement weather as well as heat and humidity, exposure to dust, asphalt, and hazardous materials. Could also work in an environment near moving mechanical parts
  • Must be able to lift, push, pull or carry objects, use abdominal and lower back muscles to provide support over time without fatigue and to effectively jump, sprint or throw an object
  • Requires good manual dexterity and multi-limb coordination
  • Noise level is generally loud
  • Must be able to quickly move arms and legs
  • Excellent stamina is required
  • Must have the ability to work in full Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) including respiratory protection including SCBA, APR, SAR
  • Must understand and follow SOPs for specific tasks

Physical Demands

Individuals must have the ability to lift 50 pounds. Must be able to remain in a stationary position at least 50% of the workday and have the capability to move within the field. Any person in this position needs the ability to operate any field equipment used within the Construction Industry. There is a requirement to traverse multiple terrain types in outdoor weather conditions along with the ability to position self in a stoop, kneel, or crouch position. Individuals must be able to wear full construction PPE and have the ability to enter confined spaces.
