The Plumber, Maintenance installs, maintains, and repairs pipes and fixtures associated with heating, cooling, water distribution, and sanitation systems. Fixes domestic appliances, such as dishwashers and gas cookers. Inspects drainage and other plumbing systems for compliance with local and national regulations.
- Interpret blueprints and building specifications to map layout for pipes, drainage systems, and other plumbing materials.
- Install pipes and fixtures, such as sinks and toilets, for water, gas, steam, air, or other liquids.
- Assemble and install valves, pipefittings, and pipes composed of metals, such as iron, steel, brass and lead, and nonmetals, such as glass, vitrified clay, and plastic.
- Join pipe by use of screws, bolts, fittings, solder, plastic solvent, and caulks joints, fills pipe system with water or air and reads pressure gauges to determine whether system is leaking, installs and repairs plumbing fixtures, such as sinks, commodes, bathtubs, water heaters, hot water tanks, garbage disposal units, dishwashers, and water softeners.
- Repair and maintain plumbing by replacing washers in leaky faucets, mending burst pipes, and opening clogged drains, and may weld holding fixtures to steel structural members.
- Install supports for pipes, equipment, and fixtures prior to installation.
- Assemble fittings and valves for installation.
- Modify length of pipes, fixtures, and other plumbing materials as needed for a building.
- Maintain, repair, test, and replace backflow & cross connection preventer devices IAW state, government and EPA criteria and maintain current certifications.
- Maintain Storm Sewer drainage
- Use saws and pipe cutters as necessary.
- Install heating and air-conditioning systems, including water heaters.
- Collaborate with contractors, construction workers, electricians, pipefitters, and steamfitters in installing and repairing plumbing.
- Test plumbing systems for leaks and other problems.
- Analyse problem and identifies appropriate tools and materials for repair.
- Choose plumbing materials based on budget, location, and intended uses of building.
- Follow health and safety standards and complies with building codes.
- Write report documenting the problem and summary of actions taken.
- Perform inspections of plumbing systems to identify and replace worn parts.
- Assist other crafts and trades personnel in their daily operations.
- Perform work to ensure compliance with plans, specifications, policies, and regulations.
- Ensure proper housekeeping practices are observed and cleans up areas of work and mechanical rooms to ensure each is clean and unobstructed access is available.
- Assist with snow removal by using small hand tools.
- Work as a spotter when needed during grounds/labor work.
- Support the project Safety Plan through personal involvement in all aspects of safety, including training and attention to the adherence to safety requirements pertaining to particular trades or skills.
- This position has been designated as Mission Critical. Mission Critical personnel are defined as those required to meet the Installation’s safety (including inclement weather for snow and ice control) and security needs during lockdown conditions.
- This position may be part of an emergency management/response team as required by the company to meet contract requirements.
- Must wear and use all required personal protective equipment (PPE), such as safety glasses, safety shoes, ear plugs, hardhat, etc.
- Perform other tasks as directed by supervisor
- Other duties as assigned
- High School Diploma or GED equivalent, with a minimum of three (3) years’ experience in plumbing services supporting a military base or civilian installation.
- Possession of a valid driver’s license.
- Emergency Management/Hazardous Materials (HAZMAT) experience.
- Backflow Prevention Device Certification
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Ability to aquire a Secret Clearance
- Proficient in use of plumbing hand tools, portable power tools, gauges, equipment, and vehicles.
- Knowledgeable in national, government and state plumbing standards and codes.
- Ability to lift and/or move up to 75 pounds.
