PLUMBER JOB DESCRIPTION


General Definition of Work


Performs intermediate skilled trades work maintenance, repair, modification and installation of plumbing fixtures in school buildings and facilities, and related work as apparent or assigned.Work is performed under the limited supervision of the Lead Plumber and Maintenance Director.


Qualification Requirements

High school diploma or GED and considerable experience in commercial plumbing, or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Essential Functions

  • Performs day to day emergency repair including installation of flush valves, pull and replace seals and bolts on leaky fixtures, repairs and replaces lavatory faucets, installs new water heaters, repairs or replaces toilets, urinals, water fountains, lavatories, routs out sewer lines and replaces faulty sewer lines, repairs or installs new water lines.
  • Performs routine maintenance including running conditions of pumps, check and maintain water heaters, change filters on water fountains, lavatory faucets, and ice machines.
  • Winterize all ball field facilities containing water availability.
  • Completes work orders for labor and materials used for maintenance office.
  • Upgrades and maintains plumbing systems including adding new lavatories, toilets, urinals, water heaters, water fountains and ice machines.
  • Installs new water and sewer lines as needed, installs new drain lines for downspouts to buildings, including replaces drain lines.
  • Hooks up water and gas lines to various cafeteria equipment.
  • Assists HVAC department by replacing and repairing lines fed with potable water.
  • Adds metering devices and checks valves to heating and air conditioning equipment.
  • Locates and repairs broken irrigation lines.
  • Perform related tasks as required or directed by a supervisor.

  • Thorough knowledge of the materials, equipment, tools and techniques used in the installation, maintenance, allocation and repair of plumbing equipment.
  • Thorough knowledge of applicable local, state and federal laws, rules and guidelines.
  • Thorough knowledge of the safety hazards of the work and of the necessary safety precautions.
  • Ability to understand and carry out oral and written instructions.
  • Ability to direct the work of others.
  • Ability to read diagrams and blueprints.
  • Ability to use standard tools and equipment of the trade.
  • Ability to operate standard office equipment and related hardware and software.
  • Ability to learn specialized software and equipment related to business need.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with associates.


Physical Requirements

  • This work requires the regular exertion of up to 25 pounds of force, frequent exertion of up to 50 pounds of force and occasional exertion of up to 10 pounds of force; Work regularly requires standing, sitting, speaking or hearing, using hands to finger, handle or feel, climbing or balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching or crawling, reaching with hands and arms, tasting or smelling, pushing or pulling, lifting and repetitive motions and frequently walking.
  • Work has standard vision requirements.
  • Vocal communication is required for expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word and conveying detailed or important instructions to others accurately, loudly or quickly.
  • Hearing is required to perceive information at normal spoken word levels and to receive detailed information through oral communications and/or to make fine distinctions in sound.
  • Work requires preparing and analyzing written or computer data, visual inspection involving small defects and/or small parts, using of measuring devices, assembly or fabrication of parts within arm’s length, operating machines, operating motor vehicles or equipment and observing general surroundings and activities.
  • Work regularly requires exposure to fumes or airborne particles and exposure to outdoor weather conditions, frequently requires exposure to wet, humid conditions (non-weather), working near moving mechanical parts, working in high, precarious places, exposure to toxic or caustic chemicals, exposure to extreme cold (non-weather), exposure to extreme heat (non-weather) and exposure to bloodborne pathogens and may be required to wear specialized personal protective equipment and occasionally requires exposure to the risk of electrical shock, exposure to vibration and wearing a self-contained breathing apparatus.
  • Work is generally in a loud noise location (e.g. grounds maintenance, heavy traffic).
  • Physical demand requirements are for Heavy Work.
