POSITION SUMMARY:
The plant process engineer will coordinate projects derived from capital planning, or other engineering projects within area of responsibility. Will provide technical support to plant personnel on new and existing processes and will be an expert resource for information for the design and installation of all types of process equipment applicable to the lime manufacturing processes.
RESPONSIBILITIES & EXPECTATIONS:
Provide technical assistance in solving equipment and process problems:
  • Lead multifunctional improvement team.
  • Lead process audits including heat and mass balance measurements and calculations to identify improvement opportunities.
  • Lead studies on raw materials and their processing to determine and evaluate potential improvements and impact on quality and efficiency
  • Understand and lead rigorous statistical analysis of process data.
  • Work closely with Automation Engineers and plant personnel to ensure instrumentation standards are current and implemented correctly using the best control strategies.
  • Work with plant production and maintenance teams to troubleshoot and improve process issues.
  • Help with Plant Capital Improvement Process.
Plan and assist in capital expansions, machine and equipment replacement, and changes in technology and general process improvements:
  • Develop Capex Requests for new improvement projects.
  • Perform process analysis / review of proposed projects.
  • Lead some small plant Capital Projects.
Function as a facilitator / technical advisor to operations:
  • Provide facts & data for evaluating system improvement opportunities.
  • Assist with implementation of system improvements & projects.
  • Develop Standard Operating Procedures for approval.
  • Formulate and present technical training. Lhoist SHAPE Project.
  • Be proactive with project follow up & system audits to ensure improvements are sustained.
  • Provide assistance and guidance in safety in design and practices.
  • Facilitate the plants Continuous Improvement Program.
Manage capital projects to insure they are completed on time and within budget:
  • Prepare scope documents for projects assigned in accordance with guidelines developed by the operating team.
  • Assist operating teams in developing the scope for assigned projects.
  • Develop a cost estimate or direct the work of an engineering firm employed
ATTRIBUTES:
  • Positive and proactive attitude. Ability to perform with minimal supervision on multiple projects in a continuous manufacturing environment is essential.
  • Technical aptitude and analytical skills.
  • Detail and process oriented with strong problem resolution abilities.
  • Effectively work with all levels of organization. Able and willing to spend the majority of time in the plant with the Operators, Supervisors, and Mechanics.
  • Excellent communication, presentation and computer skills using Excel, PowerPoint and Word. Large ERP’s such as SAP experience preferred.
  • Operating knowledge of rotary kilns, ball mills, firing systems, crushing/sizing, hydrators.
  • Knowledgeable in all phases of process evaluation and equipment application.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS INCLUDE, BUT ARE NOT LIMITED TO:
  • Physically able to access all areas required for testing of the process and emissions points, including confined spaces, ductwork and vent stacks.
REQUIRED EDUCATION:
  • B.S. in Chemical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or other applicable engineering discipline.
REQUIRED EXPERIENCE:
  • Three to five (3-5) years mechanical, process, and project management experience.
PREFFERED EXPERIENCE:
  • Lime, cement, or minerals industry process experience strongly preferred.
