Note: Typical schedule for this position will be Monday through Friday 8:00 a.m. - 4:30 p.m. and may require weekend and evening work as necessary to meet the needs of the college. An essential function of this position requires exertion of up to 100 lbs. of force occasionally, and/or up to 50 lbs. of force frequently, and/or up to 20 lbs. of force constantly to move objects. It also requires constant or frequent climbing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, pushing, pulling and reaching. Successful candidate must be able to follow verbal communications and be able to read and comprehend written directions on labels, machinery and in manuals, etc.

Duties: This full-time position is located in the Facilities Department at Red Rocks Community College. Individual needs the experience and ability to perform commercial HVAC responsibilities. Primary duties and responsibilities include: provide maintenance services to the campus offices, classrooms, restrooms, and general public areas as listed on work order. Respond to hot and cold calls adjusting room temperatures as necessary. Under the guidance of supervisor, perform preventative maintenance on existing commercial equipment such as filter replacement, replace filters, belts, bearings, pulleys, check and align pump motors, change pump seals. Learn the building Direct Digital Control (DDC) system. Maintain commercial HVAC - heating, air conditioning and refrigeration units (centrifugal and reciprocal compressors). Perform general plumbing maintenance for the upkeep of the College's plumbing systems which may include replacing copper piping, black piping, fixtures, and vanities. Unplug toilets, urinals, sink drains, floor drains, plaster traps, sump pumps and ejectors as needed. Pick up parts and materials needed for repairs. Assist with repairing cafeteria equipment to include dishwasher, stoves and coolers. Respond daily to building occupant complaints of sewer odors, leaking faucets, plugged toilets, water too hot/cold, high/low steam pressure, etc. Adhere to State and Federal codes and regulations for handling, storing and disposing of refrigerants, chemicals and oils. Assist with acetylene welding as needed to campus facilities and equipment to include railings, tables, stools, etc. Operate a variety of equipment to include forklifts and trucks to complete daily work assignments. Knowledge of and ability to use a personal computer and utilize Microsoft Office 365 to create memos, complete timesheets and leave requests, etc.
Minimum Qualifications: Two years of experience working with commercial HVAC systems including repair and maintenance. Substitutions: Successful completion of vocational training related to HVAC or through a formalized apprenticeship program for the required HVAC work experience on a year for year basis. You must submit your unofficial transcripts with application in order to be considered.
Preferred Qualifications: Minimum of three years experience working with commercial HVAC units. Prior experience operating building automation equipment and controls for existing HVAC systems. Experience working with commercial plumbing systems. Excellent customer service and interpersonal skills, and attention to detail. Ability to multitask and be a self-starter. Strong time management and organizational skills. Possess basic tool skills and ability to operate a variety of building maintenance equipment. Basic knowledge of building procedures - read and interpret drawings and written instructions. Good verbal and written communication skills. Basic computer skills. Ability to work as a member of a team as well as an individual contributor.
Necessary Special Requirements: Must possess and maintain a valid Colorado driver's license to operate company vehicles, pick up supplies, attend meetings, etc. Must submit to and successfully complete a preemployment background check which will include a motor vehicle report (MVR) as a condition of hire. Must be able to work rotating shift assignments as needed to accommodate department needs. Felony convictions or conviction of crimes of moral turpitude or convictions of misdemeanors related to job duties may disqualify you from consideration for this position. Should your background check reveal any charges and convictions, it is your responsibility to provide RRCC Office of Human Resources with an official disposition of the charges. Must have the ability to handle lengthy and sometimes difficult phone calls while relaying a professional attitude under all working circumstances. Must maintain a high level of confidentiality at all times.
