Physician, Home Call Weekends Job at Healthcare in Action
Street medicine entails using a medically equipped van to deliver medical care directly to people experiencing homelessness in locations such as parking lots, encampments, and parks.
Healthcare in Action is a medical group for patients experiencing homelessness. We need a physician who is willing to take home call on weekends from Saturday morning at 8 AM until Monday morning at 8 AM to oversee a physician assistant and a therapist who will be working in the field. You would need to be available by phone and/or video to support these field clinicians with questions and challenges that arise and to discuss new consults with them. You would need to be available by phone for the full 48 hour time period for each weekend shift you take. From 5 PM until 8 AM on Saturday and Sunday evenings you would also be on call for urgent patient calls from our answering service. You would NOT be expected to do any in-person care, i.e. this is an entirely “home call” opportunity. Healthcare in Action will provide malpractice coverage, including “tail coverage.”
Essential job functions:
Be available by phone and/or video to field clinicians caring for unhoused patients with questions and challenges and to staff new consults with them;
Direct calls from patients, screening by our answering service, from 5P until 8A on Saturday and Sunday evenings.
Charting in our electronic health record.
Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications and experience:
- MD or DO required
- Current California MD/DO Physician license in good standing
- Ability to communicate effectively in verbal and written form
- Ability to maintain patient confidentiality required. Knowledge of HIPAA requirements
- Ability to work on a team and maintain good working relationships with staff and patients
- Ability to problem-solve and to prioritize changing patient conditions.
- Knowledge of efficient interviewing practices and techniques used to gather information.
- Knowledge of diagnostic equipment and procedures
- Good interpersonal skills
- Good critical-thinking and problem-solving skills
- Excellent attention to detail
- Computer literacy including Microsoft Office and electronic medical records systems
