Description Summary: Provide clinical care and services to patients in specialty areas as assigned and as qualified to perform. Function as a fully accountable colleague with physicians and clinics through collaborative care agreements.


Essential Functions:

  • Provide direct and indirect patient care services, under the supervision of a physician, within the written and approved standardized procedures.
  • Perform complete physical examinations, compile thorough medical history, and initiate appropriate diagnostic and screening tests.
  • Accurately diagnose common medical problems and initiate treatment or make referral to physician as indicated.
  • Facilitate physician's referrals of patients to the appropriate health facilities, agencies, and resources in the community.
  • Explain diagnoses and treatments to clients from a culturally diverse population.
  • Assess clients in a variety of settings and provide treatment for common medical problems.
  • Comprehensive physical assessment; evaluating, diagnosing, and treating new and existing patient's medical conditions.
  • Initiating and interpreting labs and x-ray studies including CTs & MRIs.
  • Performs medical procedures.
  • Prescribes and refers patients for specialized consultation.
  • Uses prescriptive authority to write prescription medicines for patients.
  • Recognize and evaluate situations that call for a physician's immediate attention and, when necessary, initiate treatment procedures
  • Accurately documents findings, notes and results in an Electronic Health Records system.
  • Write/Dictate progress notes on patients' charts indicating patient status and treatment procedures performed.
  • Conducting follow-up patient care.
  • Providing health education to patients and families.
  • Supervising and/or coordinating the activities of patient care and support staff within the health care center.
  • Teaching and training illness prevention.
  • Actively participates in community health education.
  • Is among front line medical providers in emergency disaster services.

  • Develop and ensure ongoing, positive relationships and collaboration with other physicians, nurses, administrative and clinic operations staff. Ensure the success of each clinic operation through collaborative support and working relationships with all clinic operations staff.

Position requirements / Job qualifications

A. Education and Training: Graduation from an accredited college or university Physician Assistant program. Possession of an active Certificate or Letter of Approval to practice as a Physician Assistant issued by the NCCPA.
B. Licensure and Credentials: Valid license to practice medicine as Physician Assistant in the US Virgin Islands. Current CPR (BLS) certification. Current DEA Certificate.

Physical/mental demands:

  • Occasional lifting of 40 – 50 lbs and pushing of 5-20 lbs
  • Sitting, standing and walking approximately 80% of the time
  • A medium to high level of manual dexterity required
  • Bending and reaching approximately 20% of the time
  • Normal accessibility and mobility throughout the region required
  • Normal overtime/extended work hours
