Permitting Specialist
Job Summary:
Responsible for evaluating federal, state, local, and railroad permitting requirements and gaining permits for utility, projects.
Supervisory Responsibilities:
None
Duties/Responsibilities:
- Provide support to ongoing and new development projects focused on, but not limited to, permitting and regulatory needs.
- Research federal, state, local and railroad authority having jurisdiction (AHJ) for utility installations to confirm permit requirements for public right-of-way and private easements.
- Read and interpret surveys, plats, property descriptions, deeds, etc.
- Obtain third party consents for various infrastructure development, renewable energy, telecommunications, and other rights-of-way projects.
- Responsible, with limited supervision, to ensure effective administration and control of all third party/crossing documentation including the management of renewals and expiries.
- Track permit statuses, key milestone dates and related metadata.
- Maintain project line lists and databases.
- Obtain and manage receipt of third party consents as part of third party programs.
- Form and maintain strong, professional relationships with permitting authorities.
Required Skills/Abilities:
- Work with minimal supervision
- Excellent negotiating skills with regulators and the public regarding permitting of land development projects
- Perform multiple tasks with a strict and complete deadline, successfully
- Create relationships with permitting jurisdictions
- Strong interpersonal skills and ability to interact across multiple business units and stakeholders
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Strong documentation, file management, and organizational skills
- Ability to prioritize and meet critical deadlines and timelines
- Ability to interpret survey/construction plans, maps and legal descriptions
- Valid Driver’s license - required
Education and Experience:
· Degree in engineering technology, science, or any other degree, specialized training, or experience, that makes the individual uniquely qualified to perform the job responsibilities (preferred)
· In lieu of Degree – High School/GED and 2 years of related work experience
· Working knowledge of ArcGIS and AutoCAD applications
- Experience in interfacing with national and local agencies
- Demonstrated experience in preparing and submitting compliance reports
- Experience obtaining regulatory approvals from the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service and State Historic Preservation Office.
Physical Requirements:
· Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
· Vision to allow prolonged periods of computer work
· Vision to allow differences in colors, shades and brightness
· Light to moderate lifting is required
· Must be able to tolerate moderate noise (business office with computers, phones, printers, and light traffic)
· Must be able to traverse all necessary terrain at a job site
· Must be able to ride in a vehicle up to four hours to travel to and from job sites.
· Must be able to work in different temperatures and changing weather conditions.
· Must be able to traverse and inspect all areas of jobsite in all types of weather; this may include walking, climbing, reaching, bending, crawling, or stretching.
· Exposure to characteristic construction site dangers.
This position will report to our Jonesburg, Missouri or Columbia, Missouri location.
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $40,000.00 - $50,000.00 per year
